I have a small office setup with two routers. One is the Netgear FVG318 with 8 ports. The Vonage device (RTP300) is hooked from port 1 on the netgear to port 1 on the Vonage device. All computers are hooked direct to the Netgear. And the Netgear is hooked direct into the Cable Modem which has an assigned IP address that doesn't change.
The IP Address of the Netgear Device is 192.168.15.1 with DHCP enabled to give out addresses 192.168.15.100-192.168.15.149.
The IP Address of the Vonage Device (RTP300) is 192.168.15.90 and I've tried getting it to work with both DHCP enabled and disabled. When DHCP was enabled it gave out addresses 192.168.15.150-192.168.15.174.
With the setup either way, my computers are able to get an internet connection when hard wire connected to either device. The problem is that the phone line lights on the Vonage device are not lighting up and when I pick up the phone it says 'the Vonage device has no network connectivity'. Before bringing the NETGEAR into the mix, this device was set up direct behind the Cable modem and worked properly without error.
I have read some posts that suggested also enabling MAC Address CLONING on the RTP300 Vonage Device but this did nothing to help the problem, so I disabled it.
Please let me know what I can do to make this configuration work. Because my goal is to have the NETGEAR Device first after the Cable MODEM then the Vonage Device down from the NETGEAR. Thanks for your help in advance! |

When you say that port one on the Netgear is hooked to port 1 on the Vonage box, do you mean the first LAN port on the Vonage device or the WAN port on the Vonage device? If it's the former, that's your problem.
Turn DHCP off on the Vonage box and connect the WAN port on the Vonage box to a LAN port on the Netgear. |

I did that and it is working, however the router's assigned IP address says it is in conflict because the LAN and WAN have the same IP subnet. It automatically changed the IP from 192.168.15.90 to 192.168.16.1 and now computers connected to the Vonage device don't work, not that that is an issue because I connect everything through the other device, but it would be nice to be able to use those ports for future expansion. (The netgear is 192.168.15.1) |

Avoiding a conflict is why I suggested turning DHCP off in the Vonage box. I'm surprised that you had that problem. And the automatic solution sounds correct.
If you want to connect computers on the LAN side of the Vonage box, you should be able to turn DHCP back on, set the LAN side addressing to a different range from that of the primary router (as was done automatically, if I understand correctly), and be good to go.
Alternately, you could go back to the setup you've been using, with the connection to a LAN port on the Vonage box and DHCP off. To get the phone to work, you have to connect a line from a second LAN port on the Vonage box to the WAN port (!). That leaves you with 2 open LAN ports on the RTP300. |
