Hi,
I have a wireless network at home that is working perfectly. I can use my cordless phone connected to the landline with no problem.
Problems occurs when I use Vonage, the network is still ok as I can still access my other pc from my laptop, but the internet is dead. When I hover over the network icon, it only shows "local". When I end my Vonage call, the network icon will show "local and internet".
My setup is cable modem --> wirelss router --> Vonage router i also did this with the same result cable modem --> Vonage router --> wirelss router
i can live with it but its a pain, and it defeats the purpose of having Voip when you cannot use the internet both at the same time.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Apologies for my ignorance. |

Does this happen if you substitute a corded phone for the cordless? Is it a 2.4 GHz cordless? |

Thanks for the reply.
I've used both corded and cordless phone, with the same result. I think the cordless phone is not an issue here since I still have my wireless network available (laptop - wireless wifi to pc - cable) . When on a call, I could still transfer files from my laptop to my pc, but my Yahoo messenger gets disconnected, same when i'm browsing the Internet.
Hope this helps in understanding my woes |

Most of the time, as steve pointed out, this is an issue with the cordless phone interfering with the wireless signal. Try a standard chorded phone, and make sure the cordless is completely off, and not connected to the phone line or power at all. Sometimes, even if you're using a different phone, but the cordless is connected to the line, its communicating with the base. If you have this issue, with a regular phone too, you may have QoS issues.
Please paste the results from the tests in the sticky posts (or testmyvoip.com) and also include the model numbers of all your equipment, especially your Vonage equipment. Also, your internet provider details would help. |

I would like to point out that the cordless phone does not interfere in any way with my wireless network since I still have my wireless network connections. I could interconnect my laptop via wireless to my PC with no problems. The only thing missing is the internet connection, I could not browse anything when on a call. It seems like it is hugging all my bandwidth connection, and releases it when I end the call.
I had my wireless phone even before Vonage router came. and hasnt given me any problems with my wireless connections (local network and internet connection).
I'll provide my modem/router/vonage details when I get home.
btw, am from oz. |

As I said before, its USUALLY the problem, you never answered the question if the phone is on 2.4Ghz. Run the tests, and go to your web account and turn your bandwidth saver down to 30. If turning the Bandwidth saver on fixes it great, if not, its more than likely the cordless phone. |

Glad you're up and running. Even if things are working OK right now with the cordless, I'd get rid of that thing if you're going to continue running a wireless LAN. We've seen many, many messages from people who ran those phones with the wireless without problems. Then, suddenly, the problems started and the phone was the culprit. |

should I get a lower or higher frequency phone or it doesn't matter as long as it is not the same frequency as my wireless router?
cheers. |

Either a 5.8 or 6.0 ghz cordless phone will do. |
