BATTLE: Wireless Encryption VS Vonage

[font=Arial] [/font] I have tried and failed to set up wireless encryption with my Vonage modem. Call tech support and they could not help. They claim that their Vonage hardware can work with wireless encryption but they could help me get it configured.

I want to set up my wireless again, with encryption and get it to work with Vonage. I would be very grateful for help!

I was using a wireless router along with my vonage adapter before. All I did was plug my vonage adapter into one of the ports of the wireless router and there was no issue with the encryption.

I now use a wireless router with vonage built in and again no problems with encryption. Maybe I am missing your issue since you never mentioned which router/adapter you are using.

Here was the order of the hardware from the wall: 1. Cable modem 2. wireless router (a Microsoft router) 3. vonage 4. PC

As long as I didn't enable encryption everything worked fine. When attempted to enable encryption, the vonage box couldn't "see" the signal from the wireless router due to the encryption. With tech support on the phone...."First sir, let's make sure your PC is really on" - I was ready to catch a flight to Bangor and strangle this guy - we found it impossible to use WEP after manually matching the WEP encryption 5 times!

If you know of a "to it yourself" help site or someone I can call, I would be grateful. Getting a notebook for my wife and I need to get my wireless up and running again.

Enabling wireless encryption on an upstream router should have no effect on your ethernet connected Vonage device.

Which Vonage device are you using?

Are you saying that you are expecting the vonage adapter to connect wirelessly? All vonage devices as far as I know have to be connected via ethernet which will not be affected by any wireless signal.

You need to include the make/model of all the gear you have except the modem. There really should be no problems with placing Vonage on the network. Wireless security should have no bearing on the device unless you are trying to connect the Vonage device to a wireless bridge.

Are you trying to connect your vonage router wireless to your existing Microsoft router? That won't workout of the box, unless you involve other hardware and/or software.
The encryption is handled between your PC and your wireless access point. In other words: if you use pre-shared keys, they have to match on ALL devices involved.
