Hello.
I have the VPortal and I want to use it in a wireless hotel WIFI room.
Which PC card (game card?) do I need for my laptop so that I may attach my VPortal to my computer and therefore no LAN in hotel room and use my phone.

Thank you

This is a hard thing to do. I think I read that you need a cross over cable to make it work. An easy solution is to download Vonage Talk and use your laptop to make and receive calls and leave your Vonage adapter at home.

This is an alpha program, but it works great! Best part is, it is free to use.

Vonage Talk uses your Vonage number you can't use another number with it. The only way is if you have 2 numbers with Vonage, then VT uses the main number.

When I plugged my VPORTAL back in--they both rang.
So how can I get the VTALK to work solo without having my VPORTAL plugged in as I am in a wireless hotel room?
thank you

It will go straight to email when there is no internet connection unless you have it set to ring another number in case of no internet connection. You do that from the Vonage page.

When you call your number, both your Vonage phone and VT will ring since they are linked together once you start the VT application. You can disable the VT application from ringing by dialing *73 on your Vonage phone, but can still make calls on VT.

To make VT work you need to have the Vonage adapter plugged in and connected to the internet. Since you are in a hotel with wireless right now, you maybe S.O.L

You might try tech support.

I now use a wireless bridge to solve this problem, but before I had it I used my laptop.

You need a laptop with a wireless network card and an ethernet network port. You will also need an ethernet cable (ordinary is fine, it doesn't need to be a crossover).

Connect the Vonage adapter to the ethernet port of the laptop with the cable. Now go to the Network Connections screen, you can reach this via Control Panel. Select the Wireless Network Connection and the Ethernet Network Connection icons. Now right click on either of the selected connections and click on the Bridge Networks menu item. Wait a few seconds while Windows XP creates the network bridge, and shortly after that you should have a dial tone.

Thanks for the how to, but seems easier just to use Vonage Talk.
