I have been using the WRTP54G-VR for about a year. For the past couple of months my family's laptops cannot connect to the router. On each laptop we can see the strong wireless signal but cannot connect. I have to run upstairs to unplug and wait 30 seconds and plug it back in for the devices to connect. I do have a desktop that is wired to the router and it does not have any problems.
I know that I have to enter 192.168.15.1 on my web browser and do something but do not know what. Can anyone help me?
Location: Dallas
Router: WRTP54G-VR
Internet Connection: Time Warner Cable
Not sure what other information is needed. Let me know if you need more.
Thanks!!!! |

I would like to add that this would happen maybe once every 2 weeks or so but recently it has become a daily routine. |

If all your familys laptops are having trouble connecting wirelessly to your WRTP54G, I would initially suspect the wireless may be going bad on your Vonage device. Have there been any changes to the wireless drivers on the laptops? What firmware version are you running on the WRTP54G? Do you have wireless security enabled on your WRTP54G?
You enter 192.168.15.1 into your web browsers address field to access the setup of the WRTP54G...exactly what are you trying to do? |

No, there has not been any wireless drivers changes on the laptops. The current firmware version is 1.00.62 on the WRTP54G. I have the WEP 64 bits 10 hex digits security enabled.
Regarding entering 192.168.15.1 into the browser...I thought I would have to go into setup to make some changes to repair this problem. But if its the unit that is going bad then I guess there is no changes to be made other than the entire device. |

First thing I would try is to remove your current wireless network connections on the laptops and then add them back. I would also change the wireless security on your WRTP54G from WEP to WPA. WPA is far more secure than WEP. |

I do appreciate the help, Darrell.
However, it did not work. I went into the laptop and removed it as part of the network. I then viewed available wireless networks and clicked on my router but it did not connect. As before, I keep getting, "Windows cannot connect to ____. Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point". |

If the laptops are able to connect after you unplug and replug the power back in to the WRTP54G, that leads me to believe the wireless card is going bad on your WRTP54G. Do you have any other networking equipment that could be interferring with your WRTP54G wireless signal? Does the WRTP54G appear to be warmer than it should be? Your laptops are able to successfully connect to other wireless networks other than yours, correct? |

I do not have any other networking devices that would be interferring with the signal. I have even tried connecting right beside the device with no luck. The device seems to be running as warm as ever. I have read that this is common for this device. The laptops connect with wireless networks like a charm elsewhere.
From reading other threads in the forum regarding this device, it appears that neither Linksys or Vonage support this product. WOW! Do I really have to buy a new device and eat the cost of time and money on this? |

If your WRTP54G is still under warranty, Vonage should replace it for you. How's the phone quality with your WRTP54G?
If I was in your situation, I would just go out and purchase a good quality wireless router and have Vonage replace your WRTP54G with their new device the V-Portal. That's what I did and everything works great. |

Phone quality is fine.
I will have to deal with this router for awhile because $ is a bit tight right now....got laid-off recently. Once I get a new job I will buy a new wireless router plus the V-portal. Any suggestions of routers? |
