So I just switched over to Vonage which I'm truly happy with, however, I recently encountered a problem:

I currently play warcraft 3 and was able to host (I create a game and people join in ) fine before I switched over to Vonage. I was originally using a Lynksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway router (WCG200 v2) now that I added on my Vonage router (VT2142-VD) Everything has stopped working, I went over to port forwarding and added the ports for WC3 and still no result. What exactly am I supposed to do?

Thanks for your help!

we could try to help but we need more network information like which one of the routers is controlling the path to the internet? is it the Vonage device or your gateway? also if your gateway, does it have qos? it seems like a bandwidth priority issue to me since your wc3 is sharing precious upload bandwidth with your Vonage.

What is your upload bandwidth anyway?

Chck this thread:

http://www.opentechsupport.net/forums/archive/topic/37275-1.html.

One point they make is your PC firewall may be stopping it, maybe because your VT2142-VD has a different IP range than your WCG200 v2.

Also, since you are trying to host, you will be accepting conections from your WAN, not initiated by you, so if you used the pre-set WW3 settings on the router, they may not cover all the bases. Presumably, you will need to set up some custom port forwarding settings.

My windows firewall isn't the problem I just tested it.

Not sure if this is right but, it goes from my computer over to my VT2142 > Wcg200 the Wcg has the actual internet connected to it.

if your description is accurate, one major problem is that your computer should not be connected to the vt2142. It should be connected directly to your wcg200. that way the wcg200 controls the flow of your traffic and not the vt2142. imagine if you connect it this way:

Internet -> Cable modem -> wcg200; connect port 1 to computer, connect port 2 to vt2142.

Make sure that port 2 is connected to the "internet" or WAN port of your vt2142 not to one of the vt2142 LAN (normally labeled 1-4) ports.

If you do it this way, as far as your wcg200 is concerned, your computer is no different than your vt2142. It's just another device that it needs to control the internet traffic to and from.

Maybe others can chime in, but this is the way I would do it. I would then configure the port forwarding to your computer on the wcg200 not on the vt2142. Just leave your vt2142 on its default settings.

By the way, what is the ip address for all your devices?

Normally, the vt2142 is 192.168.15.1 Having all your devices on the same subnet helps in terms of accessing the web based configuration screens. I would keep it on the same subnet as your wcg200.

Yea that's the problem they both operate on different IPs
