Hi,
I just sign up Vonage phone service at Canada and got V-Portal as my ATA box. The sound quality over all is good, but sometime still has break. I was wondering someone here knows how to setup QoS to improve sound quality on my router.
Thanks, |

Sorry I am not using that adapter, you might have more success in posting this over on the U.S forum because not many people post on the Canada forum.
Can you get access to the configuration page? |

Thanks, I can get into configuration page. But I don't want to use V-Portal as router. I have Cisco 2651. |

the voice quality has many thing related. it is a end to end quality requirement, but you could only change those devices at your side. if you are using only 1 account, and your internet bandwidth is over 512k. I don't think it would improve very much by making some setting on your cisco router. but if you think sometime it's break is for your internat surfing, such as online Game or TV, BT download, you could try some bandwidth limit options.

setup port forwarding (from 10,000 to 20,000) make sure you check set and apply /save.
then you could setup QoS for protocol (rtp) set it to premium - might have to add (rtp) first then set this service to premium. Vonage tech support said (sip) can sometimes cause issues but you can add this to.
Add the mac# off your Vonage device and set it to premium.
set the port number the Vonage device is plugged into on your router to premium and all others to express you may have bandwidth limiting options here as well.
Double check this but your routher should look at the (port) first and apply rules then the mac# and apply rules then the service (rtp) (sip) and apply rules.
Each sections should have all the options tabs in the same location in the menu - when you apply the changes the router will reboot or at least the screen will refresh just make sure the changes remain on the menu.
Sometimes all this can make things worse try one at a time to see if it helps. |
