I'm considering gettting Vonage Service. If I want to buy on Ebay, what questions should I ask the seller?
Are routers like cellphones? Do I need to make sure that the serial number is legit and paid up?
Here's the Ebay listing I'm thinking about:
WRTP54G Vonage Router for $1.00
Thanks in advance. |

No not a good idea. Vonage routers are locked.
BTW, why would you want to pay (even $1.00) for an old, outdated, used piece of equipment when you can get the most current brand new piece for free when you sign up? |

I agree, why pay for it when you can get it for free. People in the past had trouble activating a used adapter, but you can check out the Mac address number with Vonage first if you like.
I would sign up through Vonage and get the latest one for free. |

Since the acquisition of a Vonage device from a source other than Vonage or one of their authorized vendors violates Vonage's TOS. it will, probably, be a war to get Vonage to activate this device to your account.
I've been through this with a UTStarcom F1000 and my first clue was when I could not activate it through my web account. Both the seller and I were paid up and in good standing with Vonage and we were both agreeable to the transfer of the MAC No. from his account to mine and we had, both, informed the Vonage CS Rep. of this. After a couple of weeks of trying different Reps., we finally found one that made it happen.
I say, let the buyer beware and don't expect a trouble free transfer under these circumstances. It may be worth the extra money to buy a NEW one from an authorized dealer to avoid the, probable, hassle. |

If the seller provides the MAC address and serial number, then I can check to see how "out of date" the router is.
Also, if you elect to get a "free" router when you sign up, you will be billed roughly $120 if you cancel in the first few months. This is a fine print policy that few people understand. |

Huh? Check "the fine print": http://www.vonage.com/device.php?type=VT2142RB&refer_id=WEBTS0706010001W1&lid=product_more_VT2142RB
None of thier equipment is worth 120.00. I don't need a MAC addy to tell you a WRTP54G is out of date. |
