--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Your location Tampa, Florida
2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) Brighthouse Networks Cable Modem [I]
3. Upload and download speeds [I]No idea

4. Modem make and model Motorola SB5100
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 ???
6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC

Hello. This is my first post and I believe I have read and understood all of the forum rules. I have a Motorola SB5100 Surfboard Cable Modem from Brighthouse Networks that I used to run my vtech 5.8ghz digital broadband phone from but we just bought a Phone Adapter/Wireless Router. All pieces are from Vonage. I have no idea how to integrate the Wireless Router with the existing broadband phone thingy (what is it called anyway-the piece of hardware?). I have tried to run the router "in between" the cable modem and computer and then run the vtech broadband off of the router but that has not worked. I tried customer service and the lady had me trying to plug in my phone line, to which I told her time and again that I do not have a hard phone line: I have a broadband phone set-up.

[I]Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.[I]

There isn't alot to go on here, but let me try. First it would be helpful if you could detail what all of your equipment is. You mention that you just bought a Phone Adapter/Wireless Router, but you don't give the company that makes it or the model. Its also confusing that you are calling this a Phone Adapter/Wireless Router, but mention that you are using the Vtech device. This would seem to conflict since the Vtech is itself a Phone Adapter.

Based on this let me give you what my assumptions are and you can correct them if this isn't the case.

1. The Vtech equipment that you have today you got from Vonage and this was working just fine with your Vonage service before the introduction of the router. This would be the IP8100 model device that you see here: http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=940&category=89&nav=3

2. The new wireless router that you bought is really just a router and not anther phone adapter. It would be very helpful to know what this device is.

3. You can make things work fine by going back and removing the router from the setup and using it as you did before.

The devices should be hooked up in the following order.

Cable Modem ---> Wireless Router --- > Vtech & PC(s)

Basically the router should be used as the place to connect everything that needs an internet connection, which should be your Vonage Vtech phone and any PCs that you have.

Detailed instructions are here on the Vonage site:
http://www.vonage.com/help.php?article=88&category=3&nav=3

If this doesn't work you need to explain what doesn't work and give details. Things like, the phone doesn't work by my PC does, or my PC works when connected to the router with a wired connection, but not wireless.

The first thing to verify is to make sure your new router is setup properly. To do this leave the Vtech out of the mix and simply hook up the router to the cable modem and a PC to the router.

See if you then have a connection.

Also make sure you follow the steps above that talk about powering everything off and then back on in the particular order.

Hopefully this will get you started.
