I purchased the D-link wireless router/ phone adapter from Best Buy. Attempted to install it and replace my existing Linksys WRT54gs. No luck. I couldnt connect to the internet. I have Comcast with a Motorola modem. Called Vonage and got help, we tried to connect my computer straight to the modem, without the linksys router or vonage router, still no internet. So we connected the modem to the linksys then the Vonage router to the linksys and the computer to the linksys, and everything worked, internet and phone. I asked the tech guy if he could help me to eliminate the linksys. He had me connect the computer to the Vonage and access the set up(192.168.15.1). He had me change the mac address, to match the physical address after running cmd prompt ipconfig/all. Didnt work, and now I cant seem to connect back to the set up (192.168.15.1). We put it all back to gether using the Linksys in front of the Vonage and it all works again but I dont need to wireless routers . Help
Thank You |

Unplug your modem from the power, restart the modem, when all is well, connect the new D-Link, then the computer.
That should work. The Comcast system is seeing the MAC address of the old Linksys. After reset, the new MAC address of the new router will be recognized. |

Thank you for your help but I unplugged everything for ten minutes like it says in the instructions and it didnt work. The tech guy said I may need to contact Comcast but I am trying to use that as a last resort. |

Try cloning the Linksys MAC in the D-link. |

I do not think that this is an issue with comcast. I called them the other day to make sure that I can replace my router with a different model and they confirmed that all they are interested in is the MAC address of the modem.
You should be able to eliminate every device and have your computer directly connected to your modem. If that's not working (and you know that your modem is ok) your computer settings are off.
Are you using DHCP?
Cloning the linksys MAC to the D-link is a good idea. Then turn everything off and unplug the cables. First turn the modem on, wait till all lights are up. Then connect the router ethernet cable and turn it on. Then connect your computer and turn it on. Make sure it is set to DHCP.
Let me know how that worked for you. |

I tried typing in the mac address of the linksys into the d-link and it didnt work. I dont know what DHCP is so I am not sure. I wonder if the linksys easy link software is causing a problem. If I connect my computer straight to the modem it tells me I have a cable disconnected, doesnt even recognize it. I will try it again and make sure I follow your directions.
Thank You all for your help |
