The problem is with Vonage since they are the ones updating our firmware!

I have firmware version 1.30.01 and I have to restart the thing at least once a week! Devices like this normally collect dust and you can forget they are there... Not this one! It dives me nuts!

DHCP fails then after that internet access drops to nothing... Phone continues to work though.. That's good but if all Vonage cares about is keeping there phone service working not internet I'm going to have to switch to Optonline or Verizon with there new fiber lines...

Vonage: Please fix our firmware!

The previous firmware was a hell of a lot worse but this one is still a problem!

It time you showed an interest in your current customers rather then such an interest is getting more...

So people know, restarting these devices is NOT normal in the industry and should not be accepted. Demand more!

I have the same problem - DHCP stops working and the router, while continuing to pass Internet traffic through, does not respond to any direct connections to its web interface.

If I power it down and restart it, DHCP and everything else starts working. It might be heat related, but all the other components next to it work fine for months on end.

This is unacceptable performance. I wonder when the rest of it will fail. Perhaps I should just call Vonage and request a replacement?

I am using the 1.30.01 firmware.

Not that it matters, but me too. Once a day my wife's Macintosh laptop ,which goes to sleep often, cant get to the internet. The router wont give it an IP. I cant log into the control panel via the browser from my PC either. Pings start to fail.

The only solution is a reboot of router. I have firmware 1.30.01. Can I revert to an old version?

Mine freezes completely. It looks like it's on, but it's not. The router placed ahead of it doesn't show it's connected, and the phone doens't ring at all. i'm about to throw it out the window.

It was good for a while, but now it's locking up about once every 8 or 10 hours.

I noticed that it's gotten really bad for me since I turned the heat on in the house. I'm almost convinced that it's a heat issue. but since i can't open the unit and expose its innards without voiding any warranties etc, i can't prove that without using a house fan. but that's noisy and should be unnecessary.

Are you stacking units? It's my experience with anything Linksys to have only one side covered, and that's the side that it sits on. Make sure you have nothing within about 5in of any side, and that the unit isn't sitting under or near a heating vent. The fan may be neccesary, but try that stuff first. Once I did that, they are always lukewarm to the touch, rather than blazing hot.

no stacking. The nearest source of heat is feet away. Ive tried moving it around the room, standing it on different faces...everything but point a fan onto it. But it runs warm to the touch. not hot, but very warm. The belkin router I use runs cool. I've never seen a router run so hot as this one. That's why i'm thinking it's a heat issue that's causing it to reboot and freeze up.

This unit has now locked up 8 times in the last week and 4 times in the last 24 hours Evil or Very Mad

I am going to call Vonage and request a replacement.

So I called Vonage to complain about this problem.

After 45 minutes (!) of troubleshooting, they agreed to sending me a replacement RT31P2.

Unfortunately, my existing unit is past the 90-day warranty, so I would have to pay $99 to get a replacement. I declined this because it did not make sense to me to pay this amount and get another unit which might well have the same systemic problem.

Since the phone service on this unit still works, I have decided to demote it from the being the broadband router. Instead, I will buy a VOIP-friendly broadband + wireless router and install the Vonage box behind that unit. Any recommendations? I like the Linksys units overall, but am concerned that this problem occurred on a Linksys box.
