Sometimes when I'm on the phone and sometimes not even on the phone I see that my net connection has gone out (Comcast). I lose the call and lose dial tone. I have to re-boot everything. Happens about once a day. If this is the best Voip can do, then I'm gonna go back to a land line.
I have a Motorola ATA...this is after trying the linksys ones that had too much hiss on my end.
I did a ping plotter test and it showed up with packet loss on several hops, mostly the backbones. And the speed is ok I guess...I jumped it up a bit with Comcast.
But if I am losing the whole internet connection, albeit only for a short time, I doubt if packet loss has anything to do with it.
I am totally stumped....so is Vonage....and so is Comcast. |

This isn't the best Voip can do.. this seems to be the best Comcast can do. Get a new Broadband provider.. one who can offer you 24/7 uptime. The cable company around where I live is aweful too for uptime. I'm on wireless from a local ISP. Rock solid. The problem you have is not Voip or the technology, it's your ISP.
Voip runs over your ISP.
If your ISP goes down so will your phone.
Your ISP goes down even when you are not on the phone
THEREFORE --> Voip is not the problem.. contact your ISP. |

I have seen several posts about people getting new cable modems that has solved their connectivity problems. might want to see if comcast will give you a different one, or buy one from a place with a good return policy (if it's worth it to you) |

Also, If your cable modem is not the FIRST thing in the chain.. see if you can't make it.. for instance.. if you first split off to a tv, then to the cable modem... it may not be getting a good enough signal. |
