Well, the simplest solution is to use a cordless phone. If you do, make sure it's not a 2.4GHz, because that might degrade your 2.4GHz wireless network. a 900MHz or 5.8GHz phone should be fine.
You should also be able to use one of those plug-in wireless phone jack extenders. Just make sure that it's meant to be used with a handset phone. It's conceivable that an extender meant only for a satellite box (for example) wouldn't bother generating a ring tone for incoming calls. |

If you want medium level difficulty (about 15 minutes with screwdriver, and electrical tape), Vonage has a good write up on how to use your existing phone jacks with Vonage on http://www.vonage.com/help_knowledgeBase_article.php?article=649&category=32.
It's a pretty good write up -- I don't claim to be Bob Vila, but the entire process only took me about 15 minutes to do. Now, no worries about cordless or wired phones (using both). BTW, cordless is 5.8 GHz (Uniden brand) and works great. |

That is certainly the best way to switch a a whole house over to Vonage, but I think Mason's issue is that his living room doesn't have an existing phone jack. |

I've had the wireless router since Christmas and it seems to be working fine with my Panasonic 2.4 set. If I can use a wireless jack in the living room, then I assume I would hook the Comcast cable -> Modem -> Adapter -> Wireless Jack and Router.
Does that sound right? |

Not all 2.4 sets will interfere with the 802.11x standard. As you stated, your Panasonic works, my Moto set also works problem free. In fact I utilize 802.11b, my cordless phone, my Nextel BB, and utilize the Bluetooth headset at the same. It all depends on the specific frequency in the 2.4 range that your equipment all runs. |
