Anyone seen any good alternatives, very tempted by BT Total Broadband, the free dual tuner freeview recorder you get is quite good according to my brother in law.

I'm on a premium ISP anyway, so this might actually save me a small amount.

Got my e-mail reply from vonage c/services today:

Thank you for choosing Vonage, the #1 rated digital phone service!

I understand that you are concerned about our fair usage policy which states that your monthly usage should be less than 2000 minutes.

The fair usage policy is introduced to UK customers to ensure that all customers are using our services for normal and reasonable purposes and not anything contrary to the usage patterns they have subscribed to. The 2000 minute threshold was kept after checking the usage pattern of different customers.

We have similar policy for U.S and Canada customers also.

For information on the Fair Usage policy, please visit sections 4.10 and 7.2 of our Terms of Service by visiting the link below:

Could you reply to them and ask them where in the US Terms of Service this is mentioned - I don't believe it is true.

Exactly no mention of any explicit usage cap - only a vague reference to inappropriate use

There's no mention of usage caps on the BT anytime tariff, if you can live with Skype-out for calls you make internationally then going to this BT tariff at 5.95 per month is a better deal than Vonage.

Well latest from Von. c/s

Quote:
"I understand that you would like to know regarding "2000 min fair usage policy" in the U.S. terms and conditions.

Please accept my sincere apology for the unfortunate chain of events which led up to your last email correspondence.

The "Fair Usage Policy" is for the UK customers. I realize that you are greatly inconvenienced by this situation. I apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused"...blah blah...

But still showing their webpage as : "No Limit on Calls" then two links on to see the "usage" thing.
Sure that's not iin accordance with advertising standards ?? Mad

Absolutely beggars belief still why we here are getting more or less shafted with fair use getting slapped on us all of a sudden for no reason. Shouldn't vonage have given us a lot more notice and a grace period before they did this?

Unfortunate chain of events...LOL..... more like unfortunately we have been caught out as the bunch of liars we are.

So next time I'm in the US I'll pick up an adaptor and use it here instead.

How does that help them any?

Could be a business opportunity for somebody on ebay to sell these.

Also whilst in US suggest you consider buying a "combine-a-line", I've ordered one through ebay, it combines 2 lines e.g. land line and VOIP into one socket, you can apparently receive calls then on the same DECT phone and also when you call out select which line you want it to use. I intend now to get people to call me on landline and call out on new VOIP provider, means that if I need to change provider again then I don't need to tell everyone another new number.
