Is there any sort of API that enables access to the Telephone Adapter or to the Vonage software? How about access to the Vonage call log file? I'd just like to be able to do more of the things that used to be possible with a traditional phone modem -- diialing a number via a software interface, popping up the phone number and name on the PC screen, etc. For example, Click2Call is OK, but it would be nice if I could build my own directory, or use an existing one that has the appropriate API, to make calls "directly" through software running on my PC.

I installed Vonage Talk and added a couple of contacts. These particular contacts do not use Vonage nor Vonage Talk (they are both cell phones). I could not see how to dial them without keying in the phone number -- that is, I could not dial them just by clicking their contact name. Is this working as designed?

I sent the request to use the ContactBook. Have not heard anything yet.

When you add your Instant Messenger account, your contacts will appear. Open Vonage Talk, on the menu bar click, Vonage / Edit my profile and add your IM account(s). Once added all your contacts will appear in Vonage Talk.

It may take a couple of days before you receive your invitation to ContactBook.

I don't use IM. That's kindof strange isn't it, that your contacts don't appear unless you have an IM account Confused ?

You don't have to necessarily IM...just add your hotmail, yahoo or google mail account. After doing this, your contacts will appear.

I added my Vonage user name (the name I use to sign in to my Vonage account), which happens to also be my user name for my gmail account. I also added my cell phone number, which I want to try to call as a test. Pressed Save.

Now, when I click the Call tab and type in my user name, I get a pop stating that I have an incoming call. It does not dial the cell phone number. When I answer the popup, nothing happens -- not big surprise.

Another anomaly is that I don't seem to be able to get back to the contact entry and, say, change the phone number. I also expected that I would be able to make a call from an entry in the contact list, which perhaps I can do, except that I can't get back to the contact list.

When you open Vonage Talk, you should see the following tabs: Contacts / Keypad / History. Did you successfully add your Gmail account? If you had any contacts in your Gmail account, they should have migrated over to Vonage Talk and should appear in your Contacts. If there are no numbers associated with your contacts, you can edit the contact by right-clicking the contact and adding their number or any other information that you want to include. Once completed, there should be a phone icon next to your contacts name. When you click on the phone icon, their number should appear. Click the number and VT will dial the number for you. The ONLY time a "Call" tab should appear is when you are on an active call with VT. If you are seeing a call tab and you're not actively on a call, completely exit out of Vonage Talk and restart the program.

You can also make a call by simply clicking on the "Keypad" tab and entering the phone number; don't forget to include the area code even if it's a local call.

Hmmm it looks like my reply to your previous message got posted twice.

I think I'm expecting Vonage Talk to do something for me that it is not designed to do. All I want is to be able to maintain a phone directory that can be used to dial the Vonage phone with 1 or 2 clicks. Go to the directory entry, highlight it, click -- and BAM the number is dialed. Something like Vonage's click2call but with its own, user-maintainable directory. I think what I can gather from what you have written is that Vonage Talk is not designed to let me maintain a directory within VT, but rather to use a directory that I would maintain in gmail or yahoo or any other email client that VT is designed to work with. Is that the case?

I do see a benefit to VT that would be very helpful to me; that is, by enabling me to use my microphone and speakers on a call, I expect it will be much better sound quality than the speaker mode on my phone handset. I will probably the product for that.

Many thanks for the time you have spent with your replies. I'll probably be back to pester you some more if/when I get the ContactBook (is that the name?) product downloaded.
