I have two multi-line phones that I need to share 2 Vonage lines with. Right now, I can only get one of the phones to have both lines and the other phone to have one of the lines.
Here is my current set up:
Each Vonage line comes in through the cable modem into one vportal (line 1 and line 2).
-----Line 1 from vportal is plugged into a Vonage wireless phone jack base unit and then a phone wire comes out of the Vonage wirelss phone jack extender located in another room and into a multi-line input jack on a multi-line phone. (This is the phone that only gets the first line from the vportal).
-----Line 2 from the vportal is plugged directly into a multi-line input jack on the second multi-line phone in the main room. (This phone gets both Vonage lines 1 and 2 on this phone like we want).
It is apparent that no matter what line port the phone wire comes out of on the back of the vportal (I've tried both), both lines come through it as found when connected directly to a multi-line phone jack on the back of a multi-line phone.
Apparently, the Vonage wireless phone jack base unit/extender product only sends the first Vonage line through it to a phone.
I NEED IDEAS either based on the hardware I mentioned above or based on new hardware to purchase in order to get BOTH lines 1 and 2 to the two seperate multi-line phones. I do have another vportal with only one fax line in use that is not currently part of this configuration and I have another Vonage device that came with the Vonage wireless phone jack base unit/extender package that I did not use since I already had the vportals.
Thanks for your help in advance! I'm desperate.

That should be correct. However, if you plug the multi-line phone into jack 2 on the Vonage unit, the lines should be reversed. Line 2 should then be on the phone's line 1 button and vice-versa.

I would guess that you're correct again. However, check and make sure that all the phone cords you're using are fully populated with 4 wires and 4 contacts on the connectors. There are a lot of cords out there with just one pair of wires for one line.
Assuming you're right about the wireless unit only passing one line, you have a couple of options. If you have house/building wiring you may be able to use that to eliminate the wireless unit altogether. If that's not an option, you may be able to use two of the wireless units. For that to work, they'd have to work on different channels so they wouldn't interfere with one another. If you know that will work, then get a second unit and an L1/L2 splitter. Plug the splitter into one of the Vonage jacks and plug the L1 output of the splitter into one of the wireless units and the L2 output into the other. At the other end, use two cords to attach to the multi-line phone using the separate L1 and L2 jacks usually provided on such phones. Check your phone for this before investing further. |
