I am very upset that 95% of my calls only show the city and state name of the calling party. The same can be said of my parents Vonage phone as well, and they live a completely different state than I do, with a completely different area code.

Just 4 months ago most of the calls I received included the actual name of the caller, whether it be a cell phone call, a business, or a POTS line, now I only get "Phoenix, AZ", "Portsmouth, NH", "Houston, TX", or "CA Wireless", on nearly all of them!

Considering that it's happening to both my parents and myself, surely this must be happening to others? Why is the caller ID feature going backwards??

I've noticed some differences in my caller id data lately as well. I don't really know who is responsible for it. Vonage or the company of the caller. I don't receive many calls but a few regular callers from landline phones are now showing the names different than they did only a month or so ago. I did receive a call the other day that I think was a wrong number but the ID was a city and state. I don't ever remember seeing that before. Also, calls from cell phones are now displaying differently. Before it said Cell Phone NE and now they are coming up as NE Wireless.

I've seen a lot of posts lately where people are describing caller ID issues so that leads me to believe that something is going on.

I called Customer Service on this issue last week, and got the following e-mail on April 20th regarding Inbound Caller ID issues:

Quote:
Dear Thomas Beem,
Thank you for using Vonage. I understand from your trouble ticket that you experiencing an issue with your INBOUND caller ID.

At this time, Vonage is consolidating our Inbound Points of Presence into Enhanced Inbound Points of Presence. During this time, we are also using different providers, such as Syniverse, Targus, or Verisign b

Vonage is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it as soon as possible. These databases are not controlled by Vonage and we have no control over the data in these databases b

Some Inbound displays can be:
PCS Phone/State/Telephone Number
State/PCS Phone/Telephone Number
State/Wireless Caller/Telephone Number
UNKNOWN/Telephone Number
Private/Telephone Number

So, it's definitely a Vonage issue, and supposedly they're "working on it". I'm not holding my breath. Who knows when or even IF this will go back to normal.

I hate to be a negative Nancy, but this is rediculous. Even when my sister calls me I only get the city and state, and she is calling from a Verizon landline. So now what is the point of having the name feature? Nice of them to notify their subscribers when making such a relatively drastic change.

I contacted Vonage a month ago on this. They told me to email them back with the numbers in question and what the caller ID should look like.

I found that to be funny. They are going into a database and updating the numbers manually.

Strange?? Confused

Strange indeed! If everyone did that for every inbound CID problem, or at least did a batch call every night, the techs would be working on nothing else. Something sounds very fishy.
