PostPosted: Tue Apr 22, 2008 11:12 am    Post subject: dlink vwr and verizon dsl. can't connect! Reply with quote Back to top

i just moved and was using centurytel dsl with a ppoe connection and everything worked great. now i have verizon dsl
in my area and i can't get my dlink vwr to work. the power light just blinks 4 times and stops and repeats. my verizon dsl modem is a westell b90-210015-04. my dsl will work with a direct connection to my computer, but when i try to run my dsl through the dlink vwr i get nothing.

is there something special i need to set in my dlink settings? im pretty sure verizon does not use ppoe? i have it set now as dynamic.

any help would be great, thanks Cool

You could try cloning the MAC of your pc into the router. Perhaps verizon is seeing the router as new equipment and not allowing a connection.

they think it acting as a router now.

Verizon DSL does use PPoE which is built in to your modem. Your modem is acting as router now which is handing out local private ips. you can call verizon and get PPoE info and setup that on dlink vwr so it will disable the router function and then dlink will do the router job.

you can also ask verizon to help you put the westel in bridge mode which will make it as modem only so you can setup ppoe on dlink vwr.

dlink vwr may/may not work behind modem/router device.

i asked them if they use ppoe and they said no. they use dynamic. im trying to bridge my westell 2200 with no luck because i can't access the control panel for some reason? i have been resetting it and trying different addresses with no luck. i found the manual online and it says 192.168.1.1 but can't connect and i have tried others.

so your saying i should be able to enter the ppoe in the dlink vwr and that will bypass the modem router settings?

who ever your talking to isn't helping you much, if its DSL it will have ppoe, nowdays all username/password has been put on the modem itself to make things easier.

http://www.lava.net/support/Westell_2200_DSL_Modem_Installation_Guide

this explains however you must be able to connect to 192.168.1.1 in order to do these, i would say contacting verizon is the only way. just tell verizon i am tryign to use my own router and would like to setup ppoe in it.

with some dsl modems(speedstream) when you put ppoe on a router it automatically makes the modem in to bridge and its not the case for all but you can try it out.

i will see if i can get the ppoe info out of them. seems like this would be basic info they would keep on the verizon site but i couldn't find one little thing on it?

thanks for the 2200 link i was looking for the manual.

i'll check back and let you know how it goes.
