Post subject: PAP2 Buzz on line - Switching ports worked for me
FYI...
Issue:
Buzzing sound when using any phone plugged into PAP2.
Resolution:
Moved number from Port 1 to Port 2 on the PAP2. Did this via
vonage
website->Add-ons->Move a number.
The Story:
I've had a PAP2 for a while now. About a year ago I noticed a buzzing sound on the line. It was loud enough to bother me but when I asked the people I was calling they said they couldn't hear it.
(one more reason for me to think I was going crazy
I have a second device I use for a work phone line and don't have the buzzing sound so I started dong some troubleshooting and narrowed it down to the PAP2. Did some searching on the forums and found someone who worked around this by calling support and moving the number to port 2 on the PAP2. I did a little snooping and found this option on the webiste for self-service. (very nice.)
I still hear a 'little' line noise but it is not like before.
I bought my PAP2 back in 2004 at Best Buy. It looks like I'll need to get another one in the future because I'm sure this is a sign of old age port 2 will probably wind up doing he same thing eventually.
Not sure if I'll get my next device from Best Buy or from
Vonage
directly.

I'd say you've got it right about the PAP2. As for where to buy something new, your options with
Vonage
are pretty limited these days. Without the new user rebate, a V-portal or a VT2142 are pretty expensive. Of course, a little discussion with the
Vonage
business office might get around that.

Post subject: Hard reset on PAP2
I was having fax issues with my PAP2 and tech support had me do a hard reset back to factory defaults. Try "**** 877778 1" and then hang up. Apparantly this clears everything from the PAP2 and sets it back to factory settings.
I wonder if this may help the buzz????

I cleared the buzz from mine a few weeks ago by creating an off-hook plug for line 2. I don't remember the exact search terms I used, but what I did was take a phone plug and inserted a wire between the center 2 pins and crimped it. Inserted it in line 2 of my PAP2 and the buzz was gone.
