I've only had Vonage for a few weeks.
All the local and domestic long-distance calls sound great. (knock on wood)
However, 800 toll-free numbers sound like overseas calls. The voice is clear enough, but there's always a constant white noise in the background... I've even tried a bunch of random 800 numbers to test this and they all do the same thing.... (airlines, hotels, or even the 800 number that my local plumber uses)
Is this a problem with how Vonage connects to 800 numbers?
Can Vonage tech support help me with this problem or should I not even bother?(have been on hold for the last 37 minutes..)
Thanks! |

I cannot discern any difference when I dial a 1-800 number, a local number or long distance number. Even the relatively few international calls I've made have all been extremely clear. |

My 800 calls work just fine.
I spend a few hours a day on 800 calls (conference calls for work) and they sound just like normal phone calls. |

Not sure why 800 numbers would be different. They may route differently: for instance If you are calling the 201 area code, Vonage would route the call to their CLEC that is in that area code to make the call local. 800 probably is initiated directly from Vonage in NJ (or a CLEC that they use there).
I would try a different Codec (change the bandwidth saver settings on your Vonage page. |
