Hi,

I am looking to set up Vonage for a small business and was wondering if there is a PBX system that anyone can recommend.

We have six employees and would most likely be getting 2 lines (maybe 3?). I am not that familiar with how Voip works so any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Just make sure the PBX does NOT use a ground start trunk. For the Vonage voice adapters you will need a loop start trunk. I am not sure of the voltage required but Vonage should be able to help with that.

If you want call waiting or call transfer between trunks you will need a PBX that can send a hookflash to the trunk line as well. Some will easily, some will with the use of many codes, and some will not.

You may want to consider a hybrid system. They are less expensive than a true PBX, usually are easier to use (less codes to remember and people have trouble with hook flashes) and you can use semiquasi key sets to dial access codes, answer call waiting, etc. A few years ago the Panasonic hybrid was a decent system, reasonably priced and with a lot of features. I do not know if it will work behind a Vonage adapter though.

Good luck.

The above statement about not working under a PBX is BS. I have been runnin Vonage uder 3 different Pbx's for over 4 years now. I now have a hybrib of Vonage, Cable and one POTS line all under my panasonic kxta824. This is the system I recommend as it is rock soild and very feature rich. I does work!

Just lurking, but the panasonic kxta824 has a reasonable price point too.

This is a thread that came out of the grave of being almost a year old...

But I've used a variety of Vonage devices with a AT&T/Lucent/Avaya Partner PBX without problems.

Nothing like a good resurection of an old topic. My personal experience with Vodavi PBX is it works but you must modify the adapter settings to prevent call drops. Vodavi in general has been a real POS since I installed it at work. Lots of reliablity issues. The two Panny's I worked with are the older kxta 624 and the current kxta824. Both are very reliable and survived lots of lighting strikes in Florida. Reasonable prices and you can use a regular cordless on it and the Caller ID will pass to it!
