I live in a joined apt and my internet is run from the front apt to mine via an ethernet cord. Last week we had an issue and a gentleman came to fix it, but since he did, my Vonage no longer works and gives the error message "internet down try and restart modem or check pppoe". Well, my internet works just fine and the modem was restarted. We don't use a password to access the internet so I don't think i have to set up the pppoe (but then what do i know..that's why i'm on this site). Anyway, if someone could give me a suggestion I'd GREATLY appreciate it cuz i've been out of a phone for almost 2 weeks. BTW, I'm not sure what kind of connection we have, it might be DSL

Plug your computer in to the yellow port. Log in the the vdv using address 192.168.15.1. User name is "router" Password is "router" . Make sure it is set to DHCP. The only other thing I can think of is a problem with the router. There has to be some reason that that router is not assigning the Vonage device an IP. You'll have to log in to the router that your "ethernet" cord is connected to. Check that dhcp is enabled, and that there are enough dhcp leases available. Also make sure that you don't have any type of mac filtering enabled, its a shot in the dark but worth checking. Good Luck

When I had this problem (twice) it was the port on the Router, I made Vonage first, call to have the Line reset ( I didn't want to wait) all work great.

So check the router?

My Prob was solved. Thanks for all the help. It was a way bigger problem than just the router though. I had to assign new numbers and stuff. A gentleman helped me out.

If anyone is interested on how this was resolved, the "shared internet" connection with the other apartment went through stacked routers and it appears that they gave him only one IP via DHCP, at least that is my best guess. So his Laptop took the lease and when he put his Vonage device in between the PC and the internet connection, it could not acquire another IP, hence the error 02.

The solution was to set the Vonage device to a static IP in the same subnet, with the gateway and DNS set to what was gleened from the connected PC.
