you needto put router in the User Name field and router in the password field.

my neighbor also has internet calling provider (not vonage). The IT guy told me that sometimes this happens when you have two diff internet calling providers for the same modem. Could this be the problem, and if so, can it be fixed (with what you're helping me do now)?

Hey ed,i know you're probably way busy. if assissting me is an imposition, just let me know. i would hate to take up too much of your time. Wink

Internet Explorer 7 can be flaky with logins, if you have firefox (mozilla) try that to login

"The IT guy told me that sometimes this happens when you have two diff internet calling providers for the same modem" I do not thimk this would affect you getting an internet connection.

i did mention that i had internet connection when the ethernet cord is plugged directly into my computer, right? it just doesn't work when it's plugged in the Vonage box.

i don't have firefor, just ie7. any other avenues we can take? or am I doomed to be out of contact with the states for a while?

Your login problem could be one of two things.

Internet explorer being flakey which sometimes can be fixed by closing all instances of it and restarting internet explorer.

Or saying the hell with it and use firefox.

If you cannot connect with firefox,

On your PC, click start, click connect to, then choose "show all connections".

Right click your LAN connection, scroll down and click properties and select (double click) Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the "this connection uses:" window.

Select "Use the following IP Address and enter 192.168.15.2 in the IP adress window.

Click OK and OK again. Later on you will ned to select "Automatically get IP adress", so remember how you got here.

This should allow you to get to 192.168.15.1, the VPortal Router.

After you do this and get on, change, it back to automatically get IP and let me know you got on, as you will not be able to use the internet from your pc until you do.

yeah! ok, i got onto the site and I checked the DHCP connection infor for you.

Internet Status: connected
Ethernet status: connected
Phone 1: enabled
Configuration: device could not reach
Server: configuration server

Internet Connection Status[U]

WAN IP Address is not assigned!

IP Address: blank
Default Gateway: 192.168.99.1
DNS Servers: 192.168.1.1

I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but that was the information you asked for earlier. What do I do next?

It is interesting that it says it is connected to the internet but:

WAN IP Address is not assigned!
IP Address: blank

I would assign a static IP to 192.168.99.97 (hoping your neighbor did not choose this one for some static IP set up), set your gateway to 192.168.99.1 and the DNS to 192.168.1.1. This is done under Basic setup, Connect to the Internet, connect using - choose "staticI P Address" then fill in the numbers

Then goto the LAN settings (Basic setup, Local Network Setup) and be sure DHCP is checked to YES.

Then put your DHCP Server Adress as 192.168.15.1, Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, StartingIP to 192.168.15.2, ending address to 192.168.15.254, Lease time 7 Days

Ed
