I have 2 phone adapters, and 2 separate phone numbers. I had an office in NYC and one in NJ. The NYC office is moving to NJ, so therefore want to connect them and keep both phone numbers. I am aware that Vonage at this point cannot combine the numbers on one of the phone adapters. One adapter is the Linksys adapter (which is both a router and adapter), the Motorola adapter is just a phone adapter. How do I wire them so I have both numbers? I have cable not DSL. I realize I will need both adapters, no problem. thanks. |

Assuming there is an open port on the back of the Linksys ATA/Router, plug the Motorola adapter into one of the free ports of the router. I don't see why that wouldn't work, unless I'm missing something. |

Do you want 2 phone lines? Or two phone numbers? If it is the first, just plug the Motorola into an available rj-45 port on the Linksys. If it is the later of the two, I am sure Vonage could make one a virtual number for you on one account. |

You will most likely need to contact Vonage support so they can change the SIP gateway communications port for one of the adapters. By default they all use 5060, but if they will be combined on a cable modem connection behind a single IP, one of them will need to be bumped to use port 5061. |

not true ... by default the linksys uses 5061 and either way it does not matter..SIP messages are text based and do not require that much bandwidth and will not interfere with each other
if the lines are on the same account they can be added to one device, if not plug the MTA into an available port on the linksys and plug the linksys into your internet connection |

Like I said, and you are also correct, jdr30. I just did the same with two wireless Linksys and they worked fine, one piggy-backed on the other.
Bottom line baltneu, you should be just fine. |

It's not a matter of bandwidth usage, it's which device the message gets routed to. In the scenario with the Linksys router up front, you would be doing NAT. In order for the Motorola to ever see SIP messages, it would have to be coming in on a different port than the Linksys. |

I have had two devices and phone lines running on my Linksys router for a few weeks now with no problems whatsoever. One is the Linksys PAP2 (Sipura designed) and the Sipura 1000. I have them both on my Router and did not have to change anything. Both lines work perfectly. |

Thanks for the responses, BUT:
I called Vonage and they say I cannot "Daisy Chain" them together, that is, plug the Motorola into an available port on the Linksys. They say I need a new Router in front of the Linksys and Motorola adapters, and should work fine.
Is this correct? |
