I assume from what you've written is that you have DSL. The problem is that your computer is set up for logging on to your DSL using PPPoE, but the V-portal, by default, is not.
First write down all your network settings on your computer, because you're going to change them and you may need to get back. Also, you need to know your PPPoE settings, including password (if any). Now change your computer settings to get its internet address dynamically using DHCP. Plug the computer into the LAN side of the V-portal. Don't connect the V-portal to your modem yet. Reboot both the V-portal and your computer, V-portal coming up first.
Now you should be able to get to the V-portal setup page that you couldn't load before. Change the WAN settings on the V-portal to PPPoE, using the same settings that your computer used to have. Save everything and shut down. Connect the WAN side of the V-portal to the modem and reboot everything- modem, then V-portal, then computer. Now it should work.
One word of warning. Some DSL ISPs and some DSL modems only want to work with one device. If yours is that way, it may insist on working only with your computer. Check with your ISP on this. One way around it is to set up your V-portal for MAC cloning. Check the V-portal user's manual. |
