PostPosted: Sat Apr 12, 2008 1:10 pm    Post subject: List of Vonage Wireless Routers Products Reply with quote Back to top

Where oh where does Vonage actually: 1.) List router model products its Linksys, Netgear, et. al. mfg partners produce? ... and 2.) where to purchase them? I want a simple solution, single 802.11G (or N) wireless router (no router stacking) with two Vonage phone lines (one a fax line). Is that all-in-one Vonage box possible? If not, I think I need a new, latest and greatest Vonage router anyway then.

My current setup of stacked routers are not cutting it. The fax has lost its functionality to both send and receive due to poor (red) "Quality of Service" (I assume) that I continually get when going to Vonage's Voip Speed Test site. Also, get high (yellow and red) "jitters", too much max packet loss, latency. I THINK it's due to my OLD Linksys RT31P2 w/ 2 phone lines router I'm using with outdated firmware versions (by several generations) and/or it's just lost its punch. It's old.

To obtain wireless capability, I have to stack another Linksys wireless WRT54GS router, then properly configure them both to work in tandem. That **** -- I'm personally flunking that detailed task. The (Vonage) Linksys RT31P2 has an old firmware version on it and won't upgrade to the firmware version's newest available one for the model -- it's more than a few firmware versions off from being the latest version Linksys makes for the RT31P2. I continually flunk the Vonage Voip Speed Test "Quality of Service" and "Jitters" tests. I can't fax. I can't wireless. HELP!

My Cox broadband service is not the problem (I think). Speed tests show me good and normal there. I think my Motorala SB5120 modem is fine as well. Why doesn't Vonage list in an easy to find place its Vonage capable product line????????????? Help!

Vonage has pretty much standardized on the V-Portal, which does not provide the "all in one" features you want.

Best Buy still sells the VWR-VD (see http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8718453&st=vonage&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1201307758773 )

I don't think too many people have much success with faxing over Voip.

I have the wireless Linksys WRT54GP2, but not sure if that is available any more.

Thanks for the replies. I was faxing just fine for quite a while. Years. But not now. Vonage's deal is $10 more a month for a fax line, or second line if you wish. But since my Quality of Service tests are now all coming up red/poor on Vonage's own testing site ... I'm guessing it's time for a new Vonage box.

I know Comcast recently got caught screwing with customers P2P service, and cable companies have (read it on PBS's Robert X. Cringely's "I, Cringely column website) the capabilities to prioritize their phone IP data packets ahead of all others (thus the need for Net Neutrality laws). Who knows, maybe Cox is up to no good on that front.

But my question remains: Where does Vonage list its hardware capable products on its website.

I had already seen that Vonage page and couldn't believe it was that limited. If that's it, then evidently Vonage does NOT list all the Vonage capable hardware at its site. What a shame.

What's this?: Linksys WRTP54G Wireless-G Broadband Router for Vonage Internet Phone Service:

http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WRTP54G-Wireless-G-Broadband-Internet/dp/B0009P657S/ref=cm_taf_title_featured?ie=UTF8&tag=tellafriend-20

But the darn thing only has 2 stars from 49 Amazon reviewers! They don't like it. But it appears to be an All-in-One box I'm looking for: Wireless WiFi G router, Vonage capable. But if that two star hardware model is available, it begs the question, what else is Vonage capable out there in the universe (that Vonage won't tell us about)? You would think Vonage, if it was a consumer centric company like i.e., Amazon touts itself, would list all available hardware that would provide Vonage service. Why not? Why the cloak and dagger on hardware that can provide Vonage service?
