Maestro cards cannot be used to process recurring payments. They can be used to make one-off payments but this is all. Maestro is the only debit/credit card company with these rules. It is a little known condition and most merchants have now ceased accepting these cards for recurring payments for this very reason. The customer service team at your bank won't know this but if you call RBS Streamline or Barclaycard Merchant Services then they will be able to confirm that this is the situation.
Obviously, direct debits would solve this problem but no sign of this payment method as of yet.

Post subject: vonage need to wake up quick and get with the program now
JohnnyP wake up man maestro is ued all over the world. I work at wm morrisons super market
http://www.morrisons.co.uk
and about 75% of people use this type of card. as wll you can make recurring on this type of account called direct debit. Who the hell does not know this and if banks tell you this is not true then they lie but more and likly it's not them saying this. look at it this way
Vonage
accepts solo witch has no over draft or guarantee but the maestro card does some £100 some £250. So this means
Vonage
is guaranteed there money solo there not. so what a stupid thing you said.

You will find that rules for accepting payment by Maestro cards differs between when the customer is present (ie when using a Maestro card to purchase at Morrisons) and when purchasing on-line(Cardholder-Not-Present transaction).
Vonage
allows you to keep your debit/credit card details on file and settles each monthly bill by requesting payment from the card. This is different to taking payment by direct debit as a direct debit payment is linked to a bank account and not a specific debit card (eg you can pay a bill by direct debit without having a debit card linked to the account.). I hope this clears up any confusion.
