Post subject: Switching from Cable internet to DSL internet service
Hi I presently have cable internet but I am switching to DSL service. I have
Vonage
phone service but all my phone service is disconnected. I have unplugged the phone jacks on the Telephone Network Interface box so that my internal phone wiring is not connected in any way to the phone company lines.
My question is how would I connect the DSL line to my home. Do I have to by pass the Network Interface unit in some way?

You shouldn't bypass the NIU. I assume that you're using the house wiring for your
Vonage
service. If that
isn't
true, then simply plug the NIU plugs back in. If it
is
true, then you need to set things up so that the DSL line uses one of the pairs in your home and
Vonage
uses another. If you want most or all of the phones in your house to use the
Vonage
service, then you'd probably want to use the line 1 pair for
Vonage
.
How you do this depends on the type of NIU. In my own case, there are two plugs- one for house wiring line 1 and one for house wiring line 2. I would simply plug the line 2 plug into the phone company's DSL service line, and then I'd rewire one of the jacks in my house so the DSL modem can plug into that jack and pick up line 2. The details of what you do will depend on your NIU.
