I am having an issue which has come up just in the last couple weeks. When people call me, whether from a cell phone or a land line, it does not ring and the caller gets a message like "A long distance company access code is required to make this call..... 3 5 7". What does this mean?

Those who are getting this are in the same area code as me, they do not need to dial long distance. I can dial out to them with no problem. This tends to happen more at night.

I should mention that I am not happy with this....and I called Vonage tech support twice and got nowhere. The first time, she told me to reset my device and she'd call me back. Never did. Second time, a guy told me that sometimes the network will not recognize the Vonage phone number without all 10 digits - which is not true, people have dialed 10 digits and still got that message. They don't seem to know.

I have roadrunner cable ISP, and my device for Vonage is the Linksys RTP300. I do not have a problem with internet speeds nor with outbound dialing.

Has anyone else had this? What does this message mean? What do I do?

Yeesh, bad scene. All I can recommend is that you get back with Vonage and demand that you get connected with 2nd tier tech support.

The message you are receiving sounds like a PSTN message and not a Vonage one. Did you by any chance enable Simulring on your line? There may be an issue routing to the number in the Simulring list. This is of course the easiest of the possible issues but wanted to put it out there.

If you are having problems with the simulring, a fix I have used is to use *72 (call forwarding) from the handset, enter a number like your cell phone then immediatley use *73 to tun off call forwarding. for some reason this fixes (clears) the simulring settings.

What is simulring? I have forwarding turned on, where the Vonage will ring first then go over to my cell phone.

Simulring is in the same setting area as forwarding. Instead of forwarding the call, it rings the numbers you input at the same time as your home phone rings. You then can choose to answer whatever phone that is whee you are at.
