1. Location = Israel
2. ISP/Connection type: Bezeq - DSL
3. Upload/download speed: 5 MB/400 KB
4. DSL equipment: Siemens SL2-141 Wireless Router/DSL Modem
5. Vonage equipment: Motorola VT2542
6. Network setup:
Siemens------Motorola------Phone.
Motorola is connected from the Motorola blue internet port to an ethernet port on the Siemens. One PC is connected to another ethernet port on the Siemens and a 2nd PC connected wirelessly. A phone is connected to Line 1 of the Motorla.
7. Issue:
Motorola lights: Power light - green but flashing once per second; internet light - green; no other lights. When I pick up the phone, a recorded message states: "This Vonage line is not set up for use and does not have a telephone number assigned to it."

My Vonage line was working fine for about 10 months. I recently swtiched my DSL modem to this new Siemens router/modem and that's when the problem began. I have full internet connectivity - both wireless and wired. My phone number shows up correctly when I log into my Vonage site.

Very strange. Your Voip test results aren't great, but they don't explain complete failure nor do they explain why it worked before and not now.

Did you change any settings in the VT2542 when you changed modems? Has it been 100% no-go since changing modems? Do you get a phone light on the VT2542 for either phone line? Are you sure that you're plugging the phone into the correct phone port? Have you tried a full reset on the VT2542?

I assume your PC's have no special settings just DHCP.

IF so I would check your 2542 to see if it acquires the address via DHCP.

Click the Set up tab :
Type: DHCP

and PPTP settings Enable box is not checked

You can also check your Home page on the router which should show something like:

WAN: Connected
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
LAN: Connected

Hi ed56,

Thanks for your reply and I think you solved my problem. When I couldn't get the 2542 to work with the Seimens, I ended up reverting to a previous setup where I used a DSL modem and the 2542. But your reply made me realize that when I had the Seimens set up, I had not changed the settings in the 2542 from PPPoE to DHCP. I'll try the new setup and let you know if that solves the issue.

I know this is not a direct response to the posting .... but I was just on the phone today with a Vonage service tech who told me that I was unable to take my Vonage box from home (California) to use in Israel because Israel now blocks Vonage usage.

Is this true?

My Vonage is working again after enabling DHCP on the Motorola. As far as I know, Israel doesn't block Vonage, and I've been using Vonage successfully for almost a year. When you get to Israel contact me if you need help setting it up, but my set up is exactly the same as Vonage shows in its quick start guide.
