I love Vonage and don't want an ATT cell phone, BUT I want an iPhone. Vonage presently sells handsets to be used for Vonage access. Please use the new iPhone SDK to morph the iPhone into a Vonage handset.

Vonage will actually have to work with Apple to make this happen. They have a secure internet protocol which allows a handset to make calls from any wifi locations. Right now they are only offering their own handset, but if they work with Apple they will gain great popularity since many of us don't need a cell phone, just the ability to make calls from other places than our house, usually work. There are a lot of us and many customers who would flock to a solution like this.

It only makes sense to use Vonage on iPhone via wifi connection.
There are already apps to use skype account (Fring) on iPhone and to many to list apps to use SIP. To bad vonage SIP credentials info is the nation best kept secret.

I have successfully set up my iphone to make vonage wifi calls.
1. I had to jailbreak my Iphone in order to install 3rd party applications.
2. I installed Fring on my Iphone.
3. I got me a Vonage softphone account and installed X-PRO Vonage application on my computer. I then tested the softphone account and wrote down my SIP settings: proxy, phone number and Vonage provided password.
4. I returned to my Fring program on my Iphone and set up the SIP source with using my Vonage information: proxy, phone number and password.
I tested this by making several phone calls and it works, the call is choppy, but this could be because I am using public wifi access, in Europe, when I return to the US I will try this on a better connection.

Good luck,
Flodaddy

Thanks flodaddy (love that). If I have to jail break, I will, but I sure would like to see Vonage use the SDK and 'officially' support it. Vonage would gain a lot of customers.

Would you cast you vote in the poll to have Vonage 'officially' support the iPhone?

If this fails, I may contact you as I quiver while I jailbreak my iPhone. I know there's revirginizing code out there, but everyone's a little afraid of bricking their phone.

If you can tell me where to cast a vote, I definitely will ... by the way if you do decide to jailbreak, www.ziphone.org/ has a really easy and straight forward application that you load on your pc and I haven't had any problems with it, and theres alot of useful 3rd party apps that is until apple opens up the store. If you have any questions just ask.

If you scroll up to the top of this chain you'll see a place to vote. Thanks for the link. Do they allow you to revirginize, then move to version 2, then jailbreak again.
