!!!SOLD!!!SOLD!!!SOLD!!!SOLD!!!

I'm selling this Vonage UTStarcom WiFi Phone because I have cancelled my Vonage service. It has nothing to do with the phone or the Vonage Service, but the location where I'm at does not support Vonage anymore, thus I will no longer need to keep their service. This phone has worked great for me while at home, traveling around the country, or the world hitting hot spots at Libraries, Internet Cafe's, Airports, Offices, my Home, etc. The phone is flawless with no scratches, I always kept it in a sleeve. Comes with a charger and Owners Manual.

Read the reveiw below!

Anyone looking for a mobile Voip phone should check out the UTStarcom F1000 with Vonage service. If you're new to mobile Voip, think of it as a way to set up a virtual landline anywhere in the world while keeping your regular phone number. It won't replace your cell phone, since you might be difficult to reach if you aren't near a Wi-Fi hotspot, but you will have the freedom to move around your house or office. The amber monochrome screen is bright and easy to read.

The F1000's strength is making clear, reliable calls using an inexpensive Vonage Voip plan over Wi-Fi. Registering the phone with an open Wi-Fi network is as simple as powering up the phone. If on a secure network, a quick trip through the Wi-Fi settings let us configure our SSID and security settings. The F1000 dials, connects, and answers calls like any other phone. Sound quality is quite good. We made a variety of test calls and were able to enjoy smooth, uninterrupted conversations, unlike the sometimes stilted quality you get from a cell phone. Standard features include a rudimentary phone book, calculator, calendar, and alarm (you can set the time zone).

Wi-Fi devices aren't known for their stellar battery life, but the F1000 lasted longer than the rated talk time of four hours. In our battery run-down test, we were able to log a continuous 4 hours and 31 minutes before the phone shut down. The F1000 lacks gee-whiz features, but it succeeds as an inexpensive, reliable Voip phone for the home that can get the job done on the road. It's ideal if you want to travel and/or make inexpensive calls from overseas. The combination of a F1000 and a Vonage plan also works well as a handy second number for a home-based business.

That's great as long as you are an authorized Vonage retailer.

From the Vonage TOS:

7.4 Prohibited Devices.

You are prohibited from using Vonage services with any devices other than Vonage-approved devices received from retailers or from us.

The purchaser will, most likely, have problems getting the device transferred to their account. Although I, personally, disagree with this section as applied to the F1000, since it has been discontinued in the US and is unavailable through authorized sources, it is what it is.

Hopefully Vonage will re-start its WiFi phone sales soon or, in the alternative, create an exception to this rule for the F1000. With a little R&D the F1000 could work like the Vonage-Talk rather than an either-or device allowing it's use without disabling the home Vonage device.

Well I sold my other Vonage devices, yes there is an extra step since the MAC address has to be switched from the sellers to the buyers account, but that's about it. Once that's done, then the buyer will be able to move his/her line to this WiFi Phone from their account on Vonage.com. Its that easy! Thanks for helping out with my sale!

It will go that smoothly IF the buyer doesn't get someone in Tech Support that will dig their heels in over something as trivial as the Terms Of Service. I've been through this with my F1000, bought on ebay, and I had to work through three Tech Support folks until I got one who made it happen, however, he didn't have to do it for me. My web account would not accept the transfer of the MAC ID because it was registered to another subscriber, hence the necessity to work through customer support.

The two previous refusals were based on the above cited TOS. All of this, even though the seller was a subscriber with Vonage in good standing. Tech Support simply dug their heels in over the TOS.

If the purchaser is VERY lucky, he/she will be able to do it on the first try. However, the expectation of a trouble free transfer of this device, under the circumstances, is unreasonable. We appear to have had completely different experiences over such a transfer.

Sorry to hear your pain but if you must vent, please do it in your own thread and quit trying to jack mine.

Let the buyer beware.

By the way, this thread wasn't hijacked, it was simply augmented with information that would prevent another problem for a Vonage subscriber. After all, problem resolution is the purpose of these Bulletin Boards and preemptive problem resolution is always best. Rolling Eyes

I'm sure that, if and when you sell it, there will be another posting on this Bulletin Board looking for a way to get your device transferred to their account since they won't be able to do it on their web account and CS will, probably, dig their heels in and refuse. Brick wall

However, take this opportunity to look on the bright side and remember the immortal words of P.T. Barnum! Very Happy

For the potential buyers: This WiFi phone worked great for me for the time that I was able to use the Vonage Service. I was able to connect to many open networks around the globe to stay in touch with my family and friends. Since I no longer have access to Vonage, i no longer need their service or any of their devices.

As I've stated before, I've already sold my other devices and had no problems switching the MAC address from my account to my buyers account. Switching this WiFi phone would be no different than switching any other Vonage device over to a buyer, just like myself and many other sellers have done in the past. Vonage customer service is very cooperative with device transfers when both parties are on the same page.

Bottom line: This device will easily be transfered to another Vonage account, regardless of a single persons bad experience.

If you would like more info on this Vonage phone, please contact me at MEDEL514@yahoo.com.
