I have been a Vonage customer since August 2005 and have been using the Linksys WRTP54G wireless router. It worked fine until Dec.2007, and then I began having dropped calls. I was told it was a bad Linksys router and needed firmware update.

I finally found the update and was able to download it. I went to the readme instructions and followed them, but when I came to the part about installing it, I was unable to locate the link.

I called Linksys but got no help. No one seemed to be able to understand or speak English in India!

Can anyone tell me how to install it? Any help would be appreciated.

Firmware updates are pushed automatically to your device by Vonage. What firmware version do you currently have?

I did have firmware # 5.(something or other). But yesterday I contacted Vonge And spoke with some one (again in India) who did not speak English well and spoke as fast as she could, and needless to say I could not understand her. But preceded on anyway and said she updated my firmware.. When I asked her what the number was she said "WRP-11.1.0-R021-10062-R060327". After that I lost my desktop, lap top, and phone service. I am now wired directly to the modem.
I really need some help.
Thanks, RReger.

The 5.xx version is the latest version. The version prior to that was 1.00.62. If you believe the 5.xx version was causing your device to drop calls, tell the tech support person to roll the firmware back to 1.00.62. If you are unsure as to which version you currently have, login to your device, and the firmware version will be listed there for you.

See the sticky at the top of the forum and run the Voip speed test and post your results. Run the test with and without your WRTP54G connected. "If" the WRTP54G is the cause of the dropped calls regardless of the firmware you have, the unit itself may need to be replaced.

Actually, you don't even need to log into the device. From any computer connected to the WRTP54G, just go to http://192.168.15.1 and the firmware version is on the upper right hand corner of the login screen.

As Darrel correctly pointed out, 5.01.04 is the latest, 1.00.62 is the next-to-latest. Either should work just fine.

Dec 2007 was, I think, around the period when 5.01.04 came out. So that may be your problem, and you can email Vonage and ask them to revert it back to 1.00.62. Fair warning, though - I did this (because I wanted to be on 1.00.62 for other reasons) and almost immediately got static on the line that just became unbearable. I tried to fix it for several weeks, then gave up and asked them to move it back to 5.01.04.

I also do not use my Vonage WRTP54G as a primary router. It's just not nearly robust enough, and the QoS is a joke ( http://vonage.nmhoy.net/qos.html ).

Having said that, the WRTP54G is a most excellent Vonage adapter, as long as you only use it for that. (grin)
