Hooked up today. Have Modem - RT31P2 - Router setup. The phone light on the RT31P2 doesn't light up. After 45 minutes on CS line tech told me that it could take 2 hours for new updates. Now three and a half hours later still no light. Question - is the Internet light supposed to blink or should it be steady? I was wondering if it was downloading info. |

I have the linysys PAP2. I was not aware of what I was really supposed to do or what to expect. I purchased mine in a store, and I activated it on-line. Then I plugged it in. The web site said to plug it in and wait at least 5 minutes before trying to use it. During that time, there was a lot of activity, probably downloading something, and then the lights went solid. Then I had a dialtone.
According to this article for your device, the status light should be off.

| Code: | Wait at least five minutes for the Phone Adapter to boot up. The Phone Adapter’s status light will blink in sequence until it has fully connected to the Vonage network. There may be updates that need to be downloaded such as new firmware or changes to your features. Do not interrupt the configuration process by unplugging the power or lifting the receiver on your phone during the startup process. Interruption of the startup may result in interruption of service.
Once the Phone Adapter’s status light is off, the Phone Adapter is ready to use.
Pick up your telephone receiver and listen for a dial tone. If you hear a dial tone, you have finished the installation and can begin making calls

That link I provided is for your device, the RT31P2, not mine. So, you might want to check that FAQ out. Otherwise, I would just call customer support again. If you still do not have a dial-tone, it could just be a defective unit. The phone-1 light on my unit is solid on. |

Thanks all! I think SuperDave answered my question. WHAT DO YOU KNOW! I decided to hit reset one more time and a few seconds later looked up and the Phone light is on! Phone line sounds good! |

I'm installing now for the first time. I've followed the instructions to the letter. So, now I'm sitting here waiting for the internet light to stop blinking and (as the web site instructions state) go out. The instructions say to wait at least 5 min. I've been sitting here for almost 2 hours now. I finally got fed up & called Vonage. Of course, I get the recording of "we're busy, try back later". Finally decided to boot up the computer & post here.
Lay it on me. Do I need to wait longer? If the internet light is blinking does this mean the adapter is still downloading? If I mess up & interupt by picking up the phone, will a reset get me back started? Should the light go out or be steady on?
Come on gurus, help me out, please. BTW I'm using the Linksys RT31P2.
Thanks, -Bill |

The internet light always blinks 24/7. Do you have a light on one of your phone ports?
When phone port 1 lights that should indicate sucessfull registration with Vonage's servers. |
