My ip was hacked and I'm being prevented access to my work's site. Is there anyway to get a different ip than the 192.168.12.2 one? I don't have any trouble getting on the site when modem directly connected to the computer. |

I think they are talking about your public IP, that is the ip that goes from your cable modem to the "world" (see http://whatismyip.com/ to find out what it is). Your work place would never be aware of your internal IP (192.168.12.2).
I wonder why IT at your work place won't remove it from their black list or white list it for you? If they won't, I would call your ISP to see if then can reset it (otherwise, if you leave your cable modem off for a week or two it might change on its own) |

I agree unless this person is connected into their network they can't block that ip as it is an internal ip. If the powering off the modem doesn't help you maybe able to login into your router and do a dhcp release and renew this may give you a different public ip. |

So you are saying they are accessing her network via a private IP?
If so they would have to be hardwired on her router or getting in through her wireless, which is the first problem to be fixed.
Changing an internal IP is easy, just login in to the router (Vonage device), and change it under the LAN settings . . . she can change to 192.168.xxx.xxx.
But I am betting her work is blocking the public IP.
really not enough info to go on, as it could also be her work only accepts connections from certain IP's and someone has impersonted her IP to try and get in? Still that would be a public IP. |

No I am not saying they are accessing her via the internal IP. You cannot access that internal ip from the outside (of the network he/she resides in) even with a static route setup. I was merely pointing out if she was in a scenerio where they have maybe multiple buildings and was actually plugged into their network (connected via fiber). But if she is accessing her info via the web they can only block public ip not the internal. Sorry for the confusion in my post. |

Can you clone your computer's MAC address to your router? By doing this, the network has to assign a new IP to your router. |
