Hi all

I am moving to Mexico (maybe) and hope to take Vonage with me. I will be moving to Mexicali a border city. Can anyone tell me if vongae is the way to go? Will it work in Mexico? Don't want to buy, move and have it not work at all. I plan to work from home and it is very important that it works.

Thanks

There are forum members who use Vonage from Mexico- Tglea for one. However, that doesn't mean that it will work for you. It's a function of the internet service provided. If you already have the service, or have a friend in that city with the service, then try running the forum Voip speed test (Forum speed dial drop down menu) from a computer connected to the service. That will tell you a lot.

Steve made some good points. It's all dependent on your internet connection. You definitely won't get as much speed for your peso here in Mexico either. But you can get a stable and good connection here, and that is more important than just the speed. I would suggest buying and using Vonage in the states now so you have an idea of how things work and it's easier to return if you don't like it. Bottom line is a good internet connection equals a good Vonage experience anywhere you take it.

I would be a little more concerned about moving to a border city. Those aren't exactly great places to be if you are living on the Mexican side of the border. Eek And how about the weather? You must live in Arizona already if you want to move somewhere with a climate like that. Good luck!

I would like to but I don't know anyone there. I'm from Vegas and thought moving to a border city i would have greater access to high speed internet. Am concerned about the heat and making ends meat. Where is a good place and not too expensive to live with high speed internet? I would LOVE to live by the beach but that must be more expensive..
I'm pretty much open to anywhere in mexico. Feel free to make any suggestions. Have read some online articles about moving to mexico but they don't really offer advise on working there. I don't have pension or anything like that and would need high speed internet to keep working from USA.

Thanks guys or gals....

Hi,
I live in Puerto Vallarta for the winter.
I use my Vonage phone extensively to keep my business going backing in Mass.
It works very well with my Telmex ISP. We also have excellent cable service.
If you need any other help about Mexico, let me know.

Richard:

Do you have a USA number set up that you take to Mexico via your Vonage? My wife is going to be moving to Mex for a year or so and we want to get Vonage for her down in PV. We would like to keep a Pennsylvania number for her Vonage account when she is in PV so our friends & family can keep in contact with her to save them money since they would be calling an PA number vs a PV number. Any insight you can give me would be great with that.

Thanks.

David,
You can switch your PA Verizon (or other ) to a Vonage (same number) than you simply bring the router (with that number on it) to Mexico and plug it into ANY high speed connection and you will have your PA number in Mexico.

Could you set up a new PA number in Mexico or does the new number need to be set up in PA first then sent to Mexico? I guess that I would not need an international Vonage plan at our house here in PA (a second Vonage account) then to call her in PV either, thats pretty nice.

Do you have Vonage now? Or are you thinking of switching from verizon or signing up for Vonage and keeping your verizon land line as well?

I am going to drop my verizon lane line and transfer that number to a Vonage account. I am also going to get my wife a Vonage account with a PA local number for when she is in Mexico.
