I'm in the Air Force over here in Korea.
This morning my phone worked fine but it seems the greed of the Korean businessmen equals that of America.
Now when I pick up the phone, I get a message saying "This telephone line can not register to the vontage network."
I'm already getting ripped off for internet and now they want to rip us off more for a phone.
Anyway around it, perhaps another IP address I can get the vontage box to call or am I just screwed?
Keeping their a$$e$ safe from North Korea and this is the thanks we get. |

Does the internet connection work at all, such as for computer traffic? Since it worked in the morning, perhaps you are having a temporary internet outage. |

see http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic22095.html
There is a couple of links in that thread that recommends using VPN, which "may" nullify their blocking. |

Korea has blocked all VOIP out going calls. This has been done for a few months at least, do a google search on the subject. How long have you been using Vonage in Korea? |

Just got here in beginning of March and it worked fine until last night, 29 March. They slipped a piece of paper under my door for phone service and next day, vontage was gone...
I'm forced away from my family for a year to keep North Korea at bay and this is the thanks I get. It is a slap in the face for the freedom that the US provides them.
Internet works fine, it is a blockage from the greedy, unthankful South Koreans. |

you might still be able to use Vonage talk, I think that should work.
alpha.vonage.com
once at that site download vonage talk. You will need a head set or microphone to use it, but you can call any north American number and also receive phone calls. Use your vonage username and password. Let us know if that will work. |

Did this work? My husband is also in Korea and he lost his service April 2 . I did hear people in Osan lost it for 1 week then it came back on. We have been trying to find a way around this also. I thinks its ridiculous that they are doing this to our service men and women as well as to the families.
I have been trying to find a way around this also so maybe we can try this and see if it works thanks for the info |

Nope, didn't work
A guy I work with tried VPN but that didn't work either. Talking to my kids is more important than money so I gave in and paid for their service. It ****. There's bad static on my wife's end and the plan only covers me calling the states. She can't call me without incurring international fees.
If the goal of the Korean government is to make us resent them, they are on the right path. |

I think that ****.... was it the Korean ISP or the Korean govt that
decided to block Vonage(or other VOIP)?
I have always believed that the DoD should provide free phone
calls for our soldiers stationed overseas, especially in a potentially
dangerous country like Korea. |
