Not a problem. IP Leases expire because if they didn't expire you would eventually run out of IP addresses as equipment is added and removed from the network.
From http://www.comptechdoc.org/independent/networking/guide/netdhcp.html : After 50% of the lease time has passed, the client will attempt to renew the lease with the original DHCP server that it obtained the lease from using a DHCPREQUEST message. Any time the client boots and the lease is 50% or more passed, the client will attempt to renew the lease. At 87.5% of the lease completion, the client will attempt to contact any DHCP server for a new lease. If the lease expires, the client will send a request as in the initial boot when the client had no IP address. If this fails, the client TCP/IP stack will cease functioning. |

If you are referring to "If this fails, the client TCP/IP stack will cease functioning", which means you will not have internet to your computer and probably no phone service, dependng on where the DHCP fails to renew (between your Vonage device and the Cable modem or between your computer and the Vonage device.)
First step would be to unplug your router(vonage device), the cable modem and shut down your computer. Then plug in your cable modem wait till it has a connection based on the lights on the front. Then the Vonage adpater (router), wait till the lights show it is connected, then restart the computer.
Really, the lease time/expiration is nothing to monitor or worry about. |
