I've switched from to Vonage from AT&T, but am still within the 30-day cancellation period. I also had DSL with AT&T. When I called AT&T to cancel my phone line service and keep only the DSL service, they told me I had to keep my line with AT&T in order to get the DSL. I had a separate phone line for the DSL from the one I'm transferring to Vonage but I wanted to cancel this line to save money. The landline and DSL was going to cost quite a bit per month from AT&T. If I have to keep a landline with AT&T, I'm not going to get much cost savings by switching to Vonage. My questions are: (1) Isn't there something called "naked DSL" or "dry line DSL" (stand alone, no landline) that AT&T offers? (2) Does anyone have any experience with getting this from AT&T? |

Good question. We can have dry loop in Canada from Bell Canada for instance. It surprises me that AT&T declines to do that. All the best |

Verizon is my DSL provider here. I had no issues getting dry loop (naked) dsl from them. The only thing they did was charge me $10 more a month for the service which even with the additional $10 I am still under what I use to pay for DSL and phone from them (Verizon). Not to mention Vonage offer's a ton more features included in their plan.
P.S. Wanted to add I have heard that some Verizon customer can not get the naked DSL. I wonder if it is a limitation of AT&T and where you live. Although they should be able to tell you that.

I had the same problem. . . Your telephone company needs to be educated. I was able to drop the line. . and had them reimburse me for the two years they made me keep it. So if there are anybody out there being told the same thing. . .fight for a refund. .. . it was refund the money. . or I contact the Attorney General and/or the FCC. . they came up with the refund. |

What a world we are living in and I do not begrudge you for taking a hard line . . .consider that Verzion is suing everyone in sight for bogus patent issues, because they can or they can get away with it. And that is big money.
The consumer usually looks at the dollars and says it isn't worth it, so we get stepped on, because they can (in most cases). |

You are exactly right. . what a world. . . some companies push you in a corner. . . well, I guess I just got pissed off enough. . . and decided not to take it any more. . . if more people would speak up for themself. . . perhaps they wouldn't do it so often. . . what happed to customer service.
This was with Qwest! |

I thought the government had passed a law that telcos had to provide this service and not force a person to buy both? Or at least it may be in discussion, but this is an issue out there I believe. |

Or when you ask for dry dsl. . they play dumb. . . then there are some of them that are dumb out there that really don't know what it is. . . then you have to explain it to them. .. and then talk them into it. . . again. .. the public needs to educate themselves. |
