I was in the exact same situation you are in, had AT&T local/long distance with DSL. I tried Vonage and kept my landline for 1 month while going through the trial. Then I decided to go AT&T's dry loop DSL "Pro" service for about $29 a month. I had a few challenges getting everything converted over, mostly just a bit too long for them to get it hooked up. But I just had Vonage forward my calls to my cell during the DSL downtime. It took about 3 or so days from the time they cut my local service to the time they got my DSL up. They originally quoted 1 day!

I also had to call and get things clarified regarding my AT&T DSL username and modem configuration because things didn't appear to initialize properly and there wasn't clear communication on how my email address under the regular DSL service would work or not work with the new service. I got that taken care by asking them some questions.

The final thing, and biggest, was my DSL speed wasn't as fast on the new service as I had before. I had steady 2.5Mbps down and 425Kbps up before, and was now only seeing 1.6Mbps down and 320Kbps up. That made no sense to me given I didn't move, nor did the CO!!?? There shouldn't have been any reason not to have the same speed as before. Finally, after waiting out their "10 day initialization period", my speed still never increased. I was quite ticked and called tech support...again. I finally got a hold of a tech who looked at my service and confirmed what I had thought, my service had been capped and wasn't set to allow for the same speed I had before. He reset everything, and wham...back to my high speed as before.

Now I've got what I had before, no landline and all for $29 from AT&T and $15 from Vonage. That compared to my $80 bill from AT&T before, with no extras other than CallerID and Unlimited Long Distance. I'm happy and even though I still have some minor issues with Vonage here or there, the cost savings can't be beat!!

So, bottom line, go for the dry loop DSL service from AT&T, just be vigilant to get your speed to where it is for you right now. And be prepared to ask questions to reps who may not have full knowledge as it's a non-standard service from what I can tell. Hopefully you won't have the same issues I've had, but even with them I'm glad I switched and am now saving $$!!

A $432.00 Savings per year, certainly not a trip to Europe, but consier it is also a 45% savings. Consider a 45% savings in all that you spend would equal at least one trip to Europe Very Happy
