PostPosted: Tue Mar 25, 2008 11:13 am    Post subject: Dial Tone unreliable and Horrible Static Reply with quote Back to top

I have been a Vonage customer for over 2 years. The service and quality has been great with only a few problems. Since last week our phone has been useless. We tried calling support but they were unable to help after an hour. You all are my last chance Smile

Since last week when you pick up the phone 1 out 4 times you'll get a dial tone. If you do have a dial tone and start dialing a call the static takes over. After a few seconds the noise is so bad and so loud you can't hear them and they can't hear you. The same thing happens on the off chance that we are able to receive a call. Here are my details:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am in Marietta, GA using a Comcast Cable Modem (Motorola SB5120) and the Linksys RTP300 Vonage adapter

Setup: Modem---->Vonage Adapter--> Wireless Router -->PC (While working on the Vonage problems I have removed the Wireless Router)

Voip Test:

Speed test statistics

Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported Voip lines: 44
Estimated MOS score: 4.0

I have reset the modem and the router, rebooted everything multiple times. I have tried different phones and different phone cables. I'm open to other suggestions as I'm close to giving up.

Thanks!
Kelly

The static sounds like it could be a wiring or phone port problem.

Replace your cord from your phone to the wall or Vonage jack. See if this helps.

If you are wired through your home try connecting a phone directly to the Vonge RTP300. See if this helps.

If you are already connected directly to the RTP300, try connecting to the other phone port, then go to your Vonage Page, go to add a feature and then select "move a number". From there select the port you plugged your phone in to. See if this helps.

Are you connected directly to your rtp300 or are you connected via house wiring?

If you are on house wiring, disconnect the phone from the jack and connect directly to your rtp300.

This could be a problem with your house wiring or with your rtp300.

please verify.

I am directly connected to the RTP300 and we have switched from Port 1 to Port 2. It seems I am rarely getting a dial tone now mostly the phone is just dead. The other interesting thing is that when I plug a phone directly into whichever port is inactive I do not get the message saying you may be plugged into the wrong port.

I would give Vonage Tech suppot one more try, explaining this. Sounds like the RTP300 may have given up the ghost, perhaps they could replace it, though not under their TOS.
