hii.....i'm facing some problem while installing Vportal which it states that any layman person can also do it....but yeah somehow im not able to crack it...ok the problem is how do i connect the vportal to my home pc without a router or cable modem. I'm using a cable broadband which is directly connected to my pc i.e. lan card. So how can i establish the connection. Reply would be appreciated. thanks...

shut everthing down PC, modem, vportal

Remove the PC end of cable that goes from your cable modem to the LAN Card and plug it into the Blue port (marked internet) on the vportal.

Take the extra cable provided with the vportal and plug one end into the orange (marked ethernet) port on the vportal then the other end into the LAN card on your pc

turn on cable modem wait 30 seconds turn on vportal wait 30 seconds turn PC everyting should be good.

Generally speaking, static IPs are not necessary. However, we don't know much about your service. Please tell up more about it.

I assume that if you plug your computer into the service, the internet works OK. Is that right? But when you connect through the V-portal, neither the phone nor the internet works. Is that correct? When your computer is connected to the V-portal, can you connect to the V-portal setup pages? How is the computer network card configured? Is it using dynamic addressing (DHCP)?

Please run the forum Voip speed test (forum speed dial drop down menu) and post the detailed results here.

hiii....yeah im using dynamic IP...btw i reside in india......the internet service im using is in2net....its like he told me to pay some amount for static ip.....otherwise it will not get connected...so kinda confused coz some people say you will require static IP...and some people say you dont require.....

yeah the same thing is happening ....im not quite sure about the lan card config....i mean its normally configured..by giving the ip address and subnet mask in tcp/ip.....and than connecting the net thru the ISP dialer....

Once again thanks for anticipating...Smile....tc....

OK, we're getting a better picture, but we need to be a bit more methodical. Your computer is using DHCP. Does it connect to the internet all right when you connect it directly to the service? If so, please run the Voip test and post the detailed results here.

Now, if you connect the computer to the LAN side of the V-portal, can you connect to the setup pages in the V-portal?

OK, you didn't post all the details from the Voip test, but what I can see is pretty bad. you don't have enough bandwidth up or down to really have good phone performance, and your pauses are way too long. If we get it working at all, you should go into your Vonage web setup and reduce your bandwidths to minimum.

Now, your internet works when your computer is connected directly to the service, and you can access the V-portal setup page when you connect the computer to the LAN side of the V-portal. Right?

With the computer connected to the V-portal, are you able to connect to the internet if you plug the V-portal into the service? I'm betting not, since the V-portal is displaying error 003. This is associated with static addressing. Since your computer is using DHCP and works properly when connected directly to the service, then the V-portal should also work properly if its WAN side is set up for DHCP. Go to the setup page and see if it is. Alternately, doing a reset on the V-portal using the button on the back should reset to the default DHCP.
