OK, you've tried a reset and that doesn't work. A reset puts the V-portal in default mode, which is DHCP, and you know that the computer works using DHCP. I can think of two possibilities. First, you need a static address for reasons that we don't understand. I doubt that this is it, but if it is, it's something to do with your ISP. Call them and ask whether static addressing is ever required, or even possible with their service.
Second, the service may require a particular MAC address to function. That is, it may be set up to recognize your computer, which has a unique MAC address, and it's refusing to work with the V-Portal. You can also check this out with your ISP, or, alternately, just use MAC cloning in the V-portal. I'll quote from the manual:
" If your ISP required you to register a MAC address during set up, keep the registered device connected in your LAN when you install your V-Portal. Your V-Portal can adopt that device’s MAC address by using a process called MAC cloning. Make sure the original device is turned on then unplug the power cord from the back of the V-Portal. After about 30 seconds, plug it back in again. The V-Portal automatically searches for the MAC address of the other device and adopts it so that the V-Portal can connect to your ISP on behalf of all the devices connected to the V-Portal's yellow port. By automatically cloning the MAC address, Vonage saves you from having to call your ISP to change the registered MAC address to the Vonage device's MAC address." |

hey steve....sssup....as per your last post...i called up my ISP...and found out about MAC address...actually it was binded...i told him release my MAC address....now the device is completely functional...but yeah i had to apply for STATIC IP......it didn't start without that....so anyways really appreciate for the support...got to learn quite a few things...thanks ....once again...just one last query....when i did the dummy call...to Chicago....i could hear the voice but the opposite person couldn't hear my voice very clearly...so is this because of low broadband speed......do u need high speed like 256 kbps or 512 kbps and more..??? |

It does sound like a speed issue, but you shouldn't need more than 90K. Since speed up is usually less than speed down, the fact that you can hear the other guy all right but he can't hear you very well adds up. It may be that your service is a bit spotty. Try measuring the speed up and down a few times to see if it's varying. |
