Is the Vonage V-Phone and SoftPhone the same thing?

Hi, I just opened my Vonage account. I may have to travel away from my home for a few months. Where I will be staying has WiFi but no data port for a ethernet connnection for my Vonage router. I saw the usb Vonage V-Phone and wondered if I will have to pay an additional $9.99 per month to use the Vonage V-Phone.

If you buy the V-Phone USB stick, then you don't need to pay the $9.99. You would transfer your main account to the V-Phone and (assuming that everything works), you'll have service - though your "home" router will be off until you swap back.

Technically, the V-Phone and soft phone are the same, except that the V-Phone gets its account details "automatically" while the soft phone requires you to type them in. Since Vonage only allows the "automatic" approach on main accounts so the V-Phone would do what you want. On the other hand - if you are only going to be gone for a short while, or if you want to be able to call home, you may be better off paying the $9.99 for a month or two compared to buying the V-Phone.
