My router's firmware was recently updated from 1.00.62 (it was automatic, not my choice). I won't go into too much detail about everything leading up to the update but afterwards, I was not able to connect to the internet with my pc (wired) even though my laptop (wireless) was fine. After a few days of procrastinating calling Vonage to have them push back the original firmware, I noticed my pc was finally connecting to the internet. So I let it go...
Now, I am building a pc for my dad and am having problems getting his pc to connect to the internet through this router. I think there is something going on with the router that requires a new device to be connected for a few days before internet access is granted. I'm using a static ip so I don't think it has anything to do with a release of the dhcp address. Also, I found a setting in "Access Restrictions" to "Block anonymous internet requests" enable or disable. It is set at enable and I tried disabling to no availe. I think that setting refers to something else anyways. All my filters are open. I can't see anything that seems to stick out.
Also worth mentioning, the computer's network settings show "connected" (only for static ip, not dhcp) but I can't even connect to the router (192.168.15.1) with my dad's pc. My wired pc still works fine.
Any suggestions other than calling Vonage to have them push back v1.00.62? |

This router always has these issues (see valentines day). To save yourself a lot of time and stress do what I did buy a good QOS router for your network and hang the WRTP54G behind it solely as a phone adapter. |

I did consider doing just that when I was having problems around valentines day but I've been fairly content with this router's performance other than this most recent issue. I'd prefer not to spend the money on a new router and if there aren't any settings suggestions, I suppose having the original firmware version restored is my best bet. |

Try to disable "DNS Proxy" on the general setup page. You'll find it around the middle. |

Thanks... didn't help.
I called support to request the firmware pushback but of course 1st level wants you to do everything that I've already tried... with the exception of "MAC clone service". Problem is, and I told support this, I'm not even able to ping the router with the new pc, let alone connect to it to run "cloning" session. I know ethernet is good... I set an ip on my laptop hardwire and wired up to the pc and was able to ping from the pc to the laptop. I tried entering the mac address of the pc while logged in the router via my laptop but still not able to ping it. I've reset this thing a dozen or more times. My laptop always connects but I can't even ping the router with the new pc.
Piece of crap router! |

I have a WRTP54G, and a while back I asked Vonage, via email (submitted from their web site) to push the firmware back from 5.01.04 to 1.00.62. they did, and almost immediately I started having problems with the WRTP54G as a Vonage adapter - mostly horrible static on my side. Mind you, this was a router that ran happily under 1.00.62 for some time before the "upgrade" and downgrade.
I did factory resets, etc, to no avail.
I finally asked Vonage, again via email, to push 5.01.04 back. It's a working Vonage adapter again! Yay! But, of course, the routing is el-crapo again. Doesn't matter all that much, I switched to a better router years ago and I just wanted 1.00.62 because I really don't like the 5.x release for other reasons, but I'd rather have a working Vonage adapter, so I'm happy with the 5.x release as far as that goes.
Seriously, you are wasting time on this. Buy a WRT54GL and load up Tomato on it. Your wireless will work MUCH better with far more impressive range, your overall experience will be much more stable, and it'll be about the best ~$65 you ever spent. Or look into some of the cheaper Buffalo units that Tomato supports now (which are basically low-cost clones of the WRT54GL). Put that WRTP54G to work as a Vonage-only unit. You'll be amazed at how nice a unit it is when it's only a Vonage adapter.

Nate, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you meant WRTP54G. |
