A follow up. Since I opted out of RR's scheme (my set-up is primary DNS in the BEFSR41 router set to 192.168.15.1 (which picks up RR's DNS from the Cable Modem) and if that fails, the settings in the BEFSR41 router (the next two listings) provide a DNS from Open DNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220)
I put in a nonsense web site " www.ddhrps.com" which got a response from OPEN DNS "You tried to visit www.ddhrps.com, which is not loading . . .", so the failover is working (after opting out of RR's DNS Redirection) the BEFSR41 router selects the Open DNS and gets a non-paid advisory "Did you mean ddgrp.com, dhrs.com, ddrs.com, ddarts.com or dehres.com?" rather than a bunch of paid ads! |

Yes, it seems what is bad about these redirection schemes (according to your link, they are becoming commonplace) is that it appears to have nullified secondary DNS entries, ie, the redirection takes over, so your router has no idea that the Primary DNS "may" have failed. |
