It used to be that Vonage outbound caller id showed only the number and no name information. Recently I've been see all sorts of odd outbound caller id name information (I have several Vonage numbers). One displays "Vonage Holdings" as the name. Another shows my correct last name and the first name "John". Both of these were numbers transferred to Vonage from other carriers (and the outbound caller id was correct prior to the transfer).
Vonage tech support says this isn't their problem and that I should contact the the recieving party's phone carrier. That's funny in any case but really funny in that the bad outbound caller id name shows up on other Vonage lines as well.
Anybody seeing similar issues? More importantly, has anyone gotten a useful response from tech support? |

Unfortunately Vonage doesn't see Outbound CallerID as a priority, to the point that they don't officially support it. If you port it from another carrier, whatever the CallerID entries were prior to the port are retained (usually). Depending on how the call is routed, it may show up as "Vonage Holdings" or "unavailable" or your former CallerID.
Don't expect Vonage's tech support department to help you with this. The official party line is that it's not a supported feature, thus they won't be willing to help you with it. |

It would be just fine if Vonage maintained whatever name was there before; or, alternately, if they provided no name at all.
But that isn't what is happening. Vonage is definitely changing what appears on the caller id name and what they are changing it to bears no relationship to the customer involved. Just stop doing it! It is obviously a mistake, obviously alienates customers.
Why not just do it right? |
