PostPosted: Thu Mar 13, 2008 8:36 pm    Post subject: Quaity of Servie at 47% using comcast Internet???? Reply with quote Back to top

Hello,

I'm using comcast internet and I did the Vonage Voip Speed Test and my Quaity of Service is at 47% It's in the RED ZONE! The other stuff is good like upload and dwnload speed and 0% packets where lost???

It looks as this is not a good thing since I was thinking of getting 4 phone lines and 4 fax lines for my small biz.

What can I do to fix the Quality of Service ????

Thanks for any Help!!!

This is what is says:

"Your Quality of Service was measured at 47%, which shows that your connection is unable to produce a constant stream of data. This is key to providing a high quality voice-over-IP connection, so sound is likley to be broken."

Switch to Fiber/DSL and you will get much better QoS then Cable.

Do NOT be overly concerned with your QoS result...it can be very misleading. The QoS score measures the consistency of your download speed. For example, if your download speed stays at a consistent 14 Mbps throughout the download speed portion of the test, your QoS score will be high. On the other hand, if your download speed starts at 10 Mbps but then drops to 6 Mbps, your QoS score will be low. With Voip, your upload speed is far more important than your download speed. The more upload speed you have, the more lines your Voip connection willl be able to support.

Posting your entire speed test results would be more helpful so we can get a better look at your overall results.

Different speed test servers provide different results, due to conditions outside of your ISP's network. Try http://myspeed.visualware.com/voip/ to confirm your results.

I've often wondered but I don't have the answer. Is it possible that the powerboost technology could lead to bad QOS scores? Darrell pointed out exactly what it measures and the powerboost does exactly that. Starts a download at a much higher rate and then the speed comes down and levels out. Just a thought.

I too use Comcast for my internet service and the Powerboost technology very well could be causing the QoS issue for some users. I'm now seeing a more consistent higher QoS score now from the forums Voip test than I did about 3 weeks ago, so I wouldn't say its entirely due to the powerboost technology implemented by Comcast. There was a thread where Dan Connor, the site administrator, had said that the servers that run the Voip speed test needed to be updated and since then my QoS score has been more inline with the QoS results from other testing sites.

If you're Vonage service is working good....then don't worry about the qos test results.

( if it isn't broke then don't fix it )

There are many Voip testing sites/servers....Remember the test is just a simulation of a call....not a real call.

I can get a 37% from one site and a 98% from another.

I agree!

As the advertisements like to say, "Individual results may vary" and mine sure do! But my Vonage works fine!

I'm not a Vonage customer but I will like to know if it will work for me before I get it. But since they do offer 1 month free I will order and test it out.
