When I use the f1000 wifi phone, sometimes it can be 5 minutes into a conversation or 40. All of a sudden this ugly clicking/chopping noise starts making it hard to understand what's being said. I can end the call, restart the phone and then quality is clear again. Everywhere I go it does the same thing.
I have 2 friends with Vonage that live 2-5 blocks from me. They have the same internet service as me. They are not using the wifi phone and say they've never have problems with voice quality. What's up with this phone?
I've read a couple other reviews where people experience the same symptoms. How can this problem be fixed? |

I had a clicking noise problem with my vt 2142 adapter, changing the bandwidth saver (vonage features page) to 30 kbps fixed it. |

Thanks for the reply. I've done pretty much anything I can think of. I've already switched the bandwidth saver to 30kbps. It did do anything. |

Sorry it did not help, worth a try. |

WiFi interference may be causing the phone to start going bad and then it seems that it doesn't revicer. Try logging into you access point and changing the channel - most start at the default of channel 6. In most places channels 1 or 11 are a lot clearer. If you want to find the least occupied channel you can have a look at the "properties" of the access points that you can see with a PC or you can just try 1 and 11 to see if that improves anything. |

I tried switching to both channels 1 and 11. Still same results on both channels. What should I do now? |

Try changing the bandwidth settings on the Vonage web site. Stay away from the middle choice - try high and try low. The middle choice seemed to have a lot of trouble when I trued it. |

Okay with so much experimenting, this is what I've come up with and it's very frustrating. I changed the bandwidth saver. I originally had it set on 30kbps and that's when I was getting the annoying clicks and cuts etc., but the person on the other end can hear me perfectly fine. However when I use vonagetalk on my laptop, there is NEVER a problem with the quality when I have the bandwidth set at 30kbps.
When I changed to the high setting (90kbps) quality was fantastic. However many times, the person on the other end says I'm breaking up and sometimes can hardly understand a word I'm saying. I get the same results on vonagetalk with my laptop at 90kbps. This, I assume, is due to my internet provider. I'm living in Argentina and my download speed reports around 1000kbps and upload around 120kbps.
With that said it would be ideal to move back to 30kbps, hence the purpose of "bandwidth saver" since I have a little slower connection. However, for some reason the PHONE doesn't seem to like that setting. How come I can use my laptop perfectly fine at 30kbps, while the phone freaks out? Is there any way for this to be fixed? |
