User Guide

Quick Install Guide

This router has no USB connection and requires an ethernet connection from the modem.

Upon receiving VT2542 I tried to set up. I do not have an external modem. The set up is for cable or dsl, not sure how to set up for wireless internet only(live out in the country). Sorry for the lack of info before, I referenced usb to point out the difference. I can't hook to internet and ethernet together as per instructions provided, only one or the other. Does this make sense. Maybe the answer is in the instructions provided. Make it more obvious to me. Thanks for everything

As you will read in the guides, to access the internet for Voip and/or computer, the basic two things you need is an internet connection via cable of DSL and a modem. Without these two things, you cannot access the internet at required broadband speeds. The router can do you no good until you obtain these two, basic, things.

After you have them, the guides will make sense.

So you have Verizon's EVDO service? You have a usb adapter that receives the signal from verizon? Did you ever run any speed tests prior to signing up to see if your connection can come close to supporting the use of Vonage? While cable or dsl are the preferred choices and satellite internet is a big no no, people have had luck using Vonage over wireless internet connections. However, you shouldn't expect any support from Vonage because what you are trying to do is way outside the norm and complicated.

Thanks tophtml for your help. Tglea, I wish I could tell u this was a thoroughly investigated approach. The EVDO was installed first to make my wife happy with working on line at faster speeds than dial up. Then along came a phone cost reduction idea and trialing Vonage. She was told by Vonage it could be done? I am my wife's poor excuse for technical support. She just wants it to work, not interested in the details. So, if it is too complicated then you both have answered my question and I can stop the free trial(that never really started). She was trying to do the right thing by saving money. Anyway, thanks again.

It's not impossible to do. However, I don't know what kind of service you get with the EVDO. The first thing would be to run the Voip speed test and post the results to see what you have. Also, in normal set ups, Vonage is completely independent of a computer. It's just networking equipment but in your situation you would need the computer on at all times to use Vonage. Basically you would share your internet connection with the Vonage box via your computer. If you want to give it a try while you are still in your trial, the first thing is to run the speedtests.

What happened when you tried? Is your version of Java the latest?

Nothing. I couldn't click on anything to run the test. I downloaded the latest Java just in case. I will try again. Thanks Steve48.
